Cedar cordwood was around $100 a cordI love Hickory cabinets and furniture. Knotty Alder is my favorite followed by Hickory.
So are Cedar logs worth anything? Inlaws has fields full of very large cedars.
all depends I think. On how profitable your property is think would be priority #1 and work load. No weather other than wet or dry doesn't matter.Curious as to how long of a wait after you first start the process of first contacting forester for logging have you experienced to when the first tree is felled? Are most loggers doing the logging in the winter months or does the month matter? Thinking of having my 40 acres logged.
in regards to that yea it is unsightly but the deer love it. Tops make easy firewood cuttn. It gives them a place to hide and if it's when the leaves are green more munchables. It does seem to encourage the multiflora to sprout but with 40 I think it'd be easy enough to nip in the nud..rabbits like to hide in our multi flora. Logging them big trees can be detrimental to have the Big Birds roosting on your place if you have some. Just from my limited experience you have to find a logger that gets what your looking to accomplish and it helps just to be on site showing an interest and learning all while being quality control@Mailman What wood are you logging hard wood ? Some of my neighbors have done this and it makes a mess . Tops and rose bushes everywhere . I would never log mine unless really needed money.
Select walnuts are valuable but I’ll keep them too.
If it’s cedar hard to get anyone do it for free.
Time of year matters on some species because of how fast the log should be processed. Best time to log is when the tree is dormant and outside of growing season but year round logging is fine.Curious as to how long of a wait after you first start the process of first contacting forester for logging have you experienced to when the first tree is felled? Depends on your species of cedar but yes Cedar is still sought after.I love Hickory cabinets and furniture. Knotty Alder is my favorite followed by Hickory.

Sounds like your neighbor either got took and/or both parties weren’t quite sure what they were doing. One neighbor opened it up for free firewood to anyone . It’s mostly all there rotting . Deer yes but turkeys have avoided it now . It was big timber and beautiful almost park like.
And he didn’t make much . Most big oaks weren’t very good in the middle.
What do you do for a living?Sounds like your neighbor either got took and/or both parties weren’t quite sure what they were doing.
I work for a hardwood sawmill. What do you do for a living?
I had mine logged because I wanted the mess it really improves the deer habitat the money was just a bonus so if you like a nice forest with no undergrowth and a few deer in daylight they keep big mature timber if you want a thicket where deer move all day long haven’t logged and that’s just my opinion so take it for what it’s worth@Mailman What wood are you logging hard wood ? Agree with this, ours has been logged over the last 2 years and it’s phenomenal how deer flock to the felled tops. Can walk up on them like rabbits now. Regarding turkey we marked a few known roosting areas as no harvest but areas where they were thinned the birds are all over. Last spring instead of dropping directly into middle of big open fields they dropped in the timber landing zones for strutting. I have zero complaints and we accomplished our goal of opening the canopy and letting the timber thicken up. Just be sure to set strict timber harvest rules so you are not bent over.I had mine logged because I wanted the mess it really improves the deer habitat the money was just a bonus so if you like a nice forest with no undergrowth and a few deer in daylight they keep big mature timber if you want a thicket where deer move all day long haven’t logged and that’s just my opinion so take it for what it’s worth
