Saturday morning found me out bright and early putting out two mineral licks. I ended up putting 50 pounds of the recipe that we've been discussing into each lick, mixing it into the dirt from the hole, and adding about 3 gallons of river water into the mix. Took my wide garden rake and mixed it all up. When I was done, it looked like it has been there for years.

I added salt and mineral to ours today, and was surprised at how much activity they are getting for this time of year.

I did mine earlier than usual,,because I'm scared I'll miss some of the rain needed to melt the salt etc into the ground. It is dry and we are needing rain to get the ground moisture back up.

I just refreshed some buck jam spots that I started at the end of season. I poured one over a rotting stump and the stump is just about all eaten, figured it was a good time to refresh.
I'm going to head out, maybe tomorrow if I have a chance and freshen the mineral/salt licks. I noticed that one of them is just starting to get hit again so it seems like it's about time. As for the moisture, I don't know if anyone else does this but I buy several gallons of distilled water and just pack them with me to get it nice and wet as I refresh them.
