It looks like all the sections to ask MDC a question are follow only. How do you ask a question to @MDC on this forum?

My question is in regard to deadheads. I've read a lot of conflicting information, including the Facebook MDC post regarding the process.

I previously understood that if you find a deadhead, you're not supposed to disturb it, and before you collect it, you're supposed to call a Conservation Agent and get instructions. I recently read however that you can collect it, but within 24 hours you're supposed to contact a CA to get instructions and a disposition form. Which of these are correct?

Next, What if you're unable to reach a CA either in the field or within 24 hours?
Next - Are you required to take pictures of the skull, before or after collecting, or is a picture at any time required? Am I covered/safe to collect it since I tried to reach them but couldn't and I should just wait for them to respond?

I just don't understand why instructions can't just be posted for everyone to understand and be consistent, are the instructions fluid?

Thanks

@MDC

Taken from the MDC deer hunting rules and regulations....
Any person who finds a dead deer with antlers still attached to the skull plate may take the antlers, but must report the find to a conservation agent within 24 hours to receive authorization to possess the antlers.
No authorization is needed to possess, buy, or sell shed antlers not attached to the skull plate.

Doe's that mean leaving a voice message or a text on my ca's phone within 24hrs is enough for notification? What about pictures?

Not expecting you to have these answers, but would like to hear from an agent directly.

I talked to the regional mdc office today and posed these questions and they deferred to instructions from the agent, including taking the deadhead prior to receiving a tag.
They did fill out a disposition tag for me after I tried contacting my agent Wednesday and Thursday to no avail. The regional office wanted pictures of the deer before they'd issue a tag however.

It's this a consistent process across all agents? You didn't say if the regs mentioned having to take pictures, but the regional office said they needed before using a tag.

Didn't know something that could be so simple is made so hard, or abstract.

It's not like the ca's pick up everytime you call them. In fact, in the 3 times I've called mine over the years, I don't think he's ever picked up.

I should probably just picked up the deadhead like everyone else and gone on my way.

@mdc, what's the agencies stance on these questions?
