MDC offers muzzleloader squirrel hunt and primitive skills camp in Ashland

The Nov. 7 program is FREE, but registration is required by Oct. 20.
ASHLAND Mo. – Discover nature with the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) by going on a muzzleloader squirrel hunt and taking part in a primitive skills camp. The program will be held from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, at MDC's Charles Green Conservation Area- at 5611 E. Minor Hill Rd. in Ashland. The program is free, but registration is required by Oct. 20.
From black-powder safety to selecting the proper load, all aspects of hunting with muzzleloaders will be covered during the class. Participants will also learn how to hunt small game on a mentored hunt. Camp educational activities will include: fire starting, bullet molding, campfire cooking, and using a hunting pouch and tools.
"Hunting with black powder firearms is fun and exciting; and it also allows the hunter to feel a connection to the past," said MDC Outdoor Skills Specialist Brian Flowers.
This program is open to adults and children age 11 or older. Those ages 17 or younger must be accompanied by an adult.
Preregister for the event online at http://bit.ly/1RtSlDB or by contacting brian.flowers@mdc.mo.gov or (573) 815-7901 ext. 3388.
Discover Nature programs are designed to help Missourians explore nature & master outdoor skills. Find more MDC events in central Missouri at mdc.mo.gov/events/region/01/heading/Central.

It's not too much. Thought you were a head shooter?

I'm thinking I might have a caplock .50 for sale soon. Pedersoli Blue Ridge/Frontier from Cabelas. My first ever muzzleloader.

I "tried" hunting with what if I recall correctly was a .32 cal front stuffer once years ago........I usually pride myself on being a good shot and having my guns dead on enough to take a knat off a fly's butt........BUT.......with that gun......I felt like a dang amateur trying to pick those greys off a limb. I got a few but even some of them weren't head shots........lots of respect for you guys whom can consistently head shoot squirrels with them way up in a big oak!
