A couple of weeks ago I hit a small doe high in the shoulder during an evening hunt. I waited till the morning to trail her. I trailed her for over 300 yards and finally lost the blood trail. 2 days later over a half mile away I came across a blood trail in a dry creek. I followed it to my dead doe. It had gotten to 70* and the coyotes had eaten on her so I couldn't save the meat. I decided to set up a trail cam on her and look who showed up.

Most people don't realize our Nations Symbol is quite the scavenger. I have seen them on deer carcasses in the middle of fields on numerous occasions.

:eek::

Nice!! A friend of mine had shot a nice buck w/ his bow in late December last year in Iowa. He looked for several days after work and could not find it. It had been several days since he shot the buck and I got off work early one afternoon and had time to help him look for his deer. He swore he had made a fatal shot but lost blood while tracking. We were scouring the area w/ about a foot of drifted snow on the ground and I saw a bald eagle sitting in the middle of an open area on what seemed to be a branch on the ground. Well the branch turned out to be the main beam of my friends buck. Hardly any of the deers body was visible. Kinda cool how the eagle lead us to it.

[rquote=1510479&tid=105360&author=Lungbuster44]good stuff, gotta love the ol high shoulder shots. what head did you hit her with?[/rquote]

2 Blade Rage. The shot actually entered above the spine and hit the top of the offside lung with a very high exit hole. She was 15 yards away and I was 22 feet high in my stand. She dropped a good bit on the shot. (I have it on video)

Yep....beautiful birds for sure...but they are a bit on the lazy side.

Would rather eat carrion instead of killing their own.

I got an adult and a juvenile on my game camera last month.

You heard right.

I had the pleasure of watching a golden eagle in flight and cruising for food at very close range this year.
Pure raptor and willing to work for food.
totally different deal and something I'll not soon forget. :cheers:

Raster, where did you see the golden eagle at? Saw a few when I was in New Mexico. Them things are tough on bighorn sheep and billy goats.
