Logging

Does anyone have experience on how deer react to logging. My neighbor has an 80 and plans on starting logging shortly. They will cut on south end of her property so there will be about a40-50 acre buffer to my line. One problem is as they move north they will be getting into cedar thicket that is a prime bedding area. Have 3 or 4 bucks in the 140 to 160 range hitting my foodplots next to her property line. Any idea on how they might react to the logging?

I would hunt as planned. Don't think you'll have much of an issue. Buds from tree tops are going to be a big hit when they hit the ground. Movement may vary a little but I don't think the deer will be disturbed much.
It will hurt you short term and help you long term on deer. Turkeys it will hurt for a long time. Turkeys prefer more open woods.

It's not going to hurt anything. I have had loggers on my farm from the 1st of September and they should finish up this next week. My trail cameras are showing lots of deer movement just like they have the previous few years I have owned this farm. For the last 3 weeks of logging they have had to skid all of the logs out through my main logging road that runs through the middle of my farm. Within 30 minutes of them quitting each evening I have deer in all of my food plots. Before this process started I was a little worried with the timing right before deer season but it is only helping things. Instead of my open timber, now deer have lots of tree tops for bedding areas. I have even seeded down a few new logging roads with cereal rye and now have more food sources for the deer. Like about everyone else I have heard horror stories about logging jobs gone wrong but my experience with the logger I have used has been great. I can't wait to see how this will benefit wildlife on my farm for years to come!!!!!!!!!!

Yes my thoughts are will not affect me a whole lot. My plots lay along a clear water creek that flows year round. A long field around 400 yds long by about 80-90 yds wide. On west side I have a steep hill about 10 acres with lots of cedars and oaks mixed. We never go in there several nice bucks bed there and come to plot late evening. Son had photo of what looks to be a 160 + Sat evening around 6:30. Never got closer than 45 yrs which he wasn't comfortable taking that shot. He took photos with his phone. Also had a really nice 10 around high 140s to 150 show up on cam later that night.
Just a bit concerned if there is a lot of activity with loggers they might seek a safer area. Hopefully they don't start logging until after the rut.
Yeah I have also heard horror stories. I remember loggers cutting next to my old farm in Putnam County made a mess. You are right though the deer loved to bed in the cut tree tops. I have probably close to 80-100 walnuts on my current property may have them cut at some point.
Not sure if they are cutting her cedars really doubt it. She has a lot of big oaks and several walnuts they are going for.
Almost impossible to get someone to cut cedar. There is almost no money in it.

170BC You got that right.Talk to your local PLC. They usually have a list of cedar cutters. It's not very profitable so they will not pay much if any, you might have to pay them.!! Lol
I've had a guy clearing out cedar on my farm since January, he's cleared probably 4-5 of the 22 acres of cedar. Deer move through the area regularly still, and now I can actually access the place. It'll be fine, just may adjust where they move through a bit. This is just what I've seen on my place. Somebody else's could be totally different.
Thanks everyone for your input. I agree should be fine. Don't think she will bother with cedar bedding area. Will take the very large muture oaks and walnuts but still leaves a lot of decent size oaks. I will be leasing the property from her.
