I had #4 on a Rem 700 .300 mag. Just sighted it in never hunted, just sat in the safe.

I would say that’s a great choice for any reasonable hunting application. If you are going to try and reach long range or extreme long range you may need to start adding MOA rails or a 34mm tube to get enough elevation/travel for 700-800+

Are the model numbers correct on those? If memory serves, the VX-1 is actually the newer version of the Vari-X II. The VX-1's have external coatings on the lenses where the Vari-X II doesn't. Does the VX-1 have 1/4" friction adjustments? The Vari-X II have 1/2" friction? Just curious, I'm pondering the VX-1 for a nice rimfire scope and I can't see the marking on your pics.

Also, do you by chance have the box for #1? I'm sure that will rub someone wrong, it usually does here
