looks like I'll be getting an AR Platform weapon and wanting to put on a quick target acquisition type scope..preferably a RedDot. I am totally ignorant to the +/-'s of each, so teach me. Also could use info on good places to find good deals on them as well.

Only one I have is on my turkey gun. Works well but you have to make sure you turn it on....and off or it will run the battery down pretty quick.

What is your budget or price range because you can go from under a hundred to over a thousand?

good value but in the hundy area or less..its for an AR Pistol
thats all well and fine and thank you for the link but to me one looks the same as the next. I was kinda wanting to know a bit more about them and the +'s /- of the different styles etc as well as good places to purchase.

It is kinda like asking what is the best kind of car/truck. You are going to get a million different answers as to which kind is best.
You may like what someone else hates or vice versa. I would go to one of the bigger sporting goods or gun stores and personally look at what they have and see what YOU like better. There are pros and cons to almost every kind of set up, but ultimately it is what would work best for your purposes.

I wouldn't rely on any $100 optic to be dependable.

This is the one you're lookin for, but I'm right there with Mo Girlscout Cookies, I wouldn't trust an optic that cost less than $400. Is this your new muzzleloader or is there a chance someone's life could depend upon the quality of optic? Military runs ACOG and EOTech for a reason.

Spend a little extra money and get a good optic. Vortex has a no B.S lifetime warrenty, they hold zero and the battery life is awesome.

As for +/- of red dots. In the plus category you have fast target accusation, durable (when you buy a quality optic) and they are light weight. In the negative category you have no variable power (all are usually 1x) that's about it.

What's your plans for this particular weapon/sight? Plinking , hunting, home defense??? Does your AR pistol have iron sights now? What caliber is it?
