Anybody have any experience with buying insurance for a hunting lease? The owner of my new lease would like us to have a plan and I'm not sure what a competitive rate or where to purchase a plan. Thanks

QDMA has good lease insurance I believe. When we got it for a duck property years ago it was 1000s less.

I've used American hunting lease insurance before.
Don't know how good they are because, ya never know until you have a claim. They were very reasonable on price.
We signed an agreement with the landowner that he wouldn't be held responsible for any accidents. Don't know if it would actually hold up, but I do know none of us would ever sue the landowner, that's just ridiculous! I actually had an accident on our lease where I tore my bicep.
If the landowner is smart, he'll have you buy insurance and add him as additional insured to the policy. One of the hunters might not sue, but his family might.. ..

I thought by law (can't remember where I read it) but if they charge you money to lease their property they need to provide the insurance? But if they don't charge you anything and it's just by permission only, then it's optional? Anyone know for sure?

I don't even think it's families suing. It's the insurance company's going after the landowners insurance company. My nephew broke his arm two weeks ago on my trampoline and they wouldn't tell the doctor where he was for fear of them coming after our insurance.

My understating in mo is if you charge you are responsible and can be sued. If you don't charge you cannot be sued.

That's when you tell the insurance you did it at home

I did that trying to keep my Harley from falling..not to swerve the thread but did you gets your repaired??. I didn't. my arm looks odd and I have no push strength ..always wondered how it would of been if I got it repaired. I was told I'd have a big scar and no range of motion.

Yes, snapped the tendon holding the bicep, surgery and a cast for 6 weeks and a rehab then the gym to get the strength back.

Yep insurance companies sue people and other insurance companies all the time. They try to get out of paying the bill anyway they can. So did anything come from it?

Did you regain much strength? I snapped mine too, doc drilled though bone below my elbow and reattached tendon through it, bicep still lumped shorter than normal and definitely doesn't feel natural. I skipped the rehab due to pending job change, so don't overload it.

So I called Farmers my home owner policy holder. They added the property onto my home and gave me liability insurance at no extra cost. It seems to be good enough to satisfy. Each man had to do this so they are personally covered.

It happened at a family members house, I'm not going after anything.
I used qdma several years ago. It was like 200 bucks for the 400 acres. 4 guys on it.
American Hunting Lease Association, used them for a few years and they have great customer service. I have had several questions over the years and they are on top of it with quick responses. Used QDMA as well and had good experience with them as well, but really have been impressed with AHLA.

Your name will be on the lawsuit.
As others have eluded to, its not about who we are going to sue. Its about whose insurance company is going to pay for what when someone gets hurt and there’s a bunch of bills to cover. All the insurance companies want to say “not mine” and try to figure out how to pass the buck.

MO law covers the landowner from liability when no money switches hands. As soon as money is involved, all bets are off.
