What are the landowner rights for hunting in Missouri? I'm looking at 80 acres and trying to understand the privalges the land ownership allows. I'm new to hunting so this may be a very basic question. I'm thinking mainly on small game, turkey, and deer. Also, do I have any rights for out-of-town hunters? I'd like my father from Nebraska to come down and rekindle his hunting spirit as he has retired. He hasn't hunted since he was 18...

sorry enough rambiling.. time to go to gunbroker.com and start drooling on some guns..

thanks

I did do some research on this on the MDC.ORG website and had some questions?

Here's what the website said
Resident Landowner Spring Turkey Hunting
For 2 turkey during the spring turkey hunting season no-cost
-so does this mean if my wife and I hunt we can get 2 total? what about my 8 year old son, can he youth hunt?

Resident Landowner Fall Firearms Turkey Hunting
For 2 turkey during the fall firearms turkey hunting season no-cost
=same questions as above

Resident Landowner Firearms Any-Deer Hunting
For 1 deer of either sex statewide during the firearms deer hunting season no-cost
-same questions as above

Resident Landowner Firearms Antlerless Deer Hunting
For 1 antlerless deer during the firearms deer hunting season in selected counties no-cost
- same questions as above...

I'm not trying to determine the TOTAL deer/turkey I can harvest for any greedy reasons, I'm just wanting to make sure I understand the rules. Also, are these set limits or can additional tags be bought...

p.s. if their is a website that lays this out please point me in that direction

thanks

Your Father will need a Non-Resident Permit to hunt in Missouri---You will have lots of tags avaliable to you as a resident land owner---

Most tags will be no cost tags for you and members of your household. There will be limits on the number of free deer tags you can recieve based on the number of acres owned. Of course the landowner tags are only good on the land that you own. More tags can be purchased if you choose to hunt elsewhere,,but no matter how many tags you get, it won't change your allowed limit of deer or turkey. In some areas the limit on doe may be infinite, but your turkey and buck numbers will remain the same regardless of the number of tags. 2 spring bearded turkeys,,,,,,,,,2 fall turkies(with shotgun),,,,,,1 buck with firearm,,,,,,,,,etc.

Bigredhusker, We ran into the same problem you have with my little sister concerning youth hunting. I do believe your son will need to buy a "youth" permit beings how he is too young to have his hunters safety course. That was how it was when we first took her hunting.

As far as total number of tags you and your wife are allowed varies with total acreage of your farm. I do believe that you BOTH can recieve the same amount of tags, for turkeys that means you both get two, and for antlered deer you would both recieve a total of two, (one archery and one rifle). Antlerless is like I said dependant on total acreage. (like Henry said, sorry i am repeating you  )

I would definately check the regulations, this is just what I understand and how it seems to be, according to my family farm.

The hunters ed requirement does'nt apply to landowners on their own land. Unless it has changed in the past few years .

thanks everyone for the good info.. and the links... I thought i read where the hunters ed doesn't apply. I plan to take it, but I don't think I have too. So does that mean my 8 year old can actually participate in the hunting if I buy a youth tag? ... he was thinking he still had to wait a few years.. :0

I think the boy can hunt your land on a landowners permit too. That is one of the perks of landownership.

ok.. now I'm getting the fever... I took the boys 4-8 out on the land I'm looking at today.. spotted a lot of turkeys and several deer. So it appears they my 8 year old WILL be able to hunt with me... sounds great.. now another choice.. what gun/caliber for my boy? He has killed rabbits with his bb gun, shot my .22's, and some larger handguns. He has also shot a .410. I'd need to get him something for turkey hunting and deer hunting. How are the combo's (rossie/others?). Anybody have a review on them. Or does anyone have some youth guns they are ready to sell? for that matter.. if you are planning on upgrading you 30-06 let me know. I'd like to get remington 760 or 7600 pump or browning bolt if anybody is planning on upgrading.. thanks.. .

Also, when it comes to turkey hunting, does cabella's/bass pro or anyone else sell a beginner package that includes everything? (decoy's, calls, etc?) thanks
