I’m pretty active on IA whitetail hunting forum and recently there were a couple video’s pushed out on protecting their resource.
I’m interested to hear opinions on this. I’ll leave mine out for now

Just stop, crossbow add so many great individiuals to the hunting rants! Why should IOwa be great, selfish! Who knew special interest and crossbows lobbyist would lie and be in for only the money??
But seriously, stay the course and fight! Lots of people (many on this site) that are clueless to what you are trying to tell them!
IA is the pinnacle for whitetail hunting and I hope it stays that way.

Didn't you borrow a xgun a couple years back to get someone out in the field to hunt with...

yes, for use during rifle season, I sure did, and thank you!

So, you support the notion of Iowa going to rifles over the traditional shotguns? And Iowa going to a firearms rut season even though their hunter voted it down and scoffed at moving the season from December. Iowa hunters unlike MO hunters realize why there have more mature bucks in their herd. It sure seems like the lobbyist and industry manufacturer would gain more than the Iowa hunters????? Just like the man pointed out.
If Iowa moved the gun season out of December into the rut, it would all end right there. That is the main reason Iowa is great. I have owned land in Iowa since 2003. It is 90% the timing of the gun season.

Keeping NR out helps yes, but the NR landowner tag proposal, would only help Iowa hunting...However, it would drive land prices higher and limit access to locals--I am fully aware of that.

Iowa now has straight wall rifles, has a 3 buck limit if you own land and has too many seasons...it is not full of good regulations by any means.

**Bottom line it is great because of the late gun season.

No, I do not support any of what he mentioned that they want to change. I've said it for years, moving the season would be the biggest difference MDC could do to help for mature deer. I don't think rifles will make too much of a difference honestly. Slug guns and muzzys have come a long ways and shoot very accurate well past 200 yards. I agree with him 100%, but I wouldn't first jump to the weapons allowed vs the season placement.

much like all of the states that are great, they tend to have later gun seasons...except for KY.

agree 100% with season placement....slugs have definitely come a long ways, but they are still nowhere near rifles.

Cousin Eddie, you are clearly more dialed in on the deer seasons in Iowa, but it doesn't seem from the outside that there is an inordinate amount of seasons???? maybe pop mgt and excess tags...but other states have similar seasons like Iowa.....

I sure enjoy watching people hung up with Horn Porn set their hair on fire about all this.

I wonder what the age dynamics are for Deer Hunting in Iowa specifically rifle (slug) season? Also I see that IOWA has gone to a ..not sure what the right term is but its another round that not knecked down ..straight casing as another option to slugs.. do they pretty much have the same Maximum effectiverange or more? In regards to Dates the reason I ask because people like me say F that cold weather and wouldn't go out or just shoot out my back window. Just to stir the pot but is that not _ discrimination by making access to hunting in reasonable weather more difficult?

I like Mo seasons just the way it is and if a person thinks IOWA is all that or any other state for that matter... then go hunt there.

Kansas used to be right up there with Iowa, not so much anymore, yes Kansas still has rifle season after the rut, but pretty much open tags for everyone, "almost.
Most evrything is leased up by non-resy;s or outiftters

I might suggest aside from season dates is iowa is generally lots of huge 1000 acre plus farms. 80 percent of missouri is a very few few big farms, some 200 acre type places, and a whole whole lot of people's "40 acres of heaven" with 2 to 10 people hunting most of those tiny acreage. I think a deer on 10 1000 acre farms (10000 acres) has a lot better chance of getting to trophy size than where half of 10000 acre area consist of 100 40 to 80 acre recreational properties.

Maybe you should stick to fishing in the late Spring👍 But seriously, the hunters in IOwa were asked by the DNR if they wanted a peak rut season and they laughed at the DNR! IOwa hunter are just a bit smarter than Missouri hunters! But , then again the IOwa hunters know why they kill giants and also know it is not impossible to kill them is December, but far to easy to slaughter them with guns in November!!!
Hats off to the IOwa DNR to have a BR draw, keeps hunting opportunities for the residents!!

Oh come on ! Over the counter gun tags in November and .50 caliber sniper systems are where it's at . Just imagine, being able to look in that pickup bed and be able to say " but he'll sure eat good !"

How many deer do you think are taken past 250 yards? I still don't think I've shot a deer that was over 100 yards. Yes rifles are longer range guns vs slugs. But I bet that would have a very very small impact. I still stand with changes should not be made and wish mdc would get their head out their a$$ to follow suit. They give zero effs about the placement of alternative season. Again it opens Christmas weekend and runs thru new years. Yet won't move rifle season back a week due to Thanksgiving. Move it 2 weeks back then geniuses
