Last year was my first year going to Kansas, but I know firearm started on the 8th. I thought I remember that it always started on the 8th. I just looked and this year, firearm starts on the 14th.

I'm assuming that's a change in their rules or has it always fluctuated? (just realized it seems to always start on the 2nd Wednesday of the month!)

I just noticed it being posted, so now I have to change my vacation all around. Hunt there the week before MO season starts and then 2 weeks in MO hunting!

I have been going out there for several years now but don't normally go early. Are you sure it wasn't the youth and archery portion of the season that opened on the 8th last year???

It has been the 2nd Wednesday since I have been going. The archery season is before that now.

Will I make it out to KS this year?! I suppose it is doubtful. I'll probably be fishing instead.

It was the 8th last year. I realized after I posted it it's exactly as Parker said. The 2nd Wednesday of April I pulled a few dufus moves today :toilet:

I won't mind it being a little bit later. We go every other year or so and two years ago it got down to about 20 degrees one night in SE Kansas. It was a pretty cold night in the tent!

Turkey Seasons
2010 SPRING TURKEY:

•Regular (firearm/archery): April 14 - May 31, 2010
•Archery-Only : April 1 - 13, 2010
•Youth/Disabled : April 1 - 13, 2010
•Shooting Hours: One-half hour before sunrise to sunset.
•Legal Equipment: long, recurve or compound bows and shotguns and muzzleloading shotguns 20 gauge or larger using shot sizes 2 through 9. Crossbows are legal during April 14-May 31 season only.
•Limit: Any individual who has purchased a spring turkey permit is eligible for one second turkey game tag. Spring game tags are valid for Units 2 and 3 ONLY.

Looks like they moved it back a week to give bowhunters another week to hunt. I wish they left it alone. That's why I like KS so much...I could hunt out there early, then a week off before MO's season. Now, if I hunt the KS opener, I'll have to hustle back to the family farm in Jefferson County the Sunday before MO's opener! That's a lot of hustling and windshield time.... :whinging:

I've turkey hunted in Kansas for the past 10 years. Kansas use to open their firearm season the wednesday closest to the 15th until a couple of years ago when it was moved forward a week. The hunting is much better aroung the 14th in my opinion. The past couple of years the birds have been to bunched up on the opener. I'm in favor of the change.

They extended the archery portion this year.: My son and I usually go the archery portion and do pretty well. :cheers:
