I am looking at buying a John Deere 1050 tractor. It has a Yanmar 3 cylinder diesel engine. I believe that the tractor was built in the mid to late 80s. From what I have read online, this model has been discontinued and Yanmar no longer makes tractors for John Deere.

Does anybody have any experience with this tractor? Are they reliable? Most importantly, are parts hard to find?

Would you buy this or would you buy a Ford 8N if you just need a tractor for brush hogging around the farm?

When I buy such items I check the reviews on line. On this tractor the reviews look pretty darn good to me. I think Ford 8N's are a good basic put put tractor for light work but this JD 1050 is one step up from that. I'd go for it if the price is right to you.

I know nothing about the tractor, but those little 3 cylinders are bullet proof little engines.

Good lord I wouldn’t even be considering the 8N to the JD if there isn’t any financial considers. 35 years newer, diesel, more hp. Parts aren’t an issue on a JD.

My neighbor has one. He abuses the crap out of his 1050. Still runs like a champ
