Makes sense. The culling only takes place in small areas known to be harboring positives. Hunter harvested tested deer are more random.

I find those figures to be a bit hard to believe. Hunters killing 96% only found 15 deer but mdc shooters found that 50% of the culled deer they shot tested positive? Where are these additional deer listed in the testing results. Sounds like propaganda to get land owners to allow extermination.

If they cull 300 deer that would mean 150 positives given 50% factor

No. The 50% factor is the percentage of the positives . Not the percentage of deer tested.

How many positives have they had? I wish they had some better statistics to go with this.

I think they are celebrating early successes (or failures). Recent years have not been effective in the newer hotspot areas.

So 7-8 of the 15 positives were during cullings

So if they found 2 positives 1 was found by culling but how many were killed to find a those positives.

Looking at the map, does anyone know if there are pen operations near all the positives?

Since the culling isn't finished for the year I would assume the article is referring to previous years and not this year. I don't believe they have results back from much if any of this year's culling yet.

In Cedar county I know of one about 12-13 miles from the "positive." There may be others closer.

Nice people, great family, salt of the earth folks, just trying to make a living doing something they love. State of the art facilities.

Brakkes had state of the art facilities with 79% of the deer in them that tested positive for cwd . I wonder if the cedar valley folks bought any deer from them.

Wgaf..... and no one in MO could buy deer from the brakkes unless the brakkes were still CWD certified at the time, and it would be in their records if they had bought from them.

Only if brakkes followed the rules which they proved they don't when they violated the quarantine.
