Trust me, that was a tough pill to swallow because I was going to hunt VV
and then go get a second bird in my go to unit.

However my occupation can have me all over the place and at anytime.
I love every single bit of it though, so I have no complaints! (It pays for my little hunting hobby :D )

I'll get another chance to hunt them in VV for sure!

Sorry for the delay in the journal!
I was out of the country for work, but I'm back now, and ready to have some FUN!!!

So what's new since I left?

I believe I already talked about the New Mexico elk tag that I have, but did I mention the free ranch antelope tag and mule deer access that I got? Well it happened and I am fridge PUMPED!!!!!!!!!!
I'm always excited to shoot an elk, but now I might be able to add an antelope and mule deer to the freezer too?? OH MY!!!!

I'm still waiting on many other draws, but I don't even need them now. With all of the whitetail, turkey, and NM game on my plate... it's gonna be a great year!

I've got today and tomorrow off, so I decided to go do some exploring in the woods.
I went to where I was chasing that large Florida buck last year because I am dead set on finding his sheds.
No luck today, but I did find this....

No big deer in Florida :D

I'll be back out tomorrow and this weekend looking for more!
Anyways, I'm back, I'm excited, and it's going to be a great year!

    Hope everyone is doing well.

nice, go where no one else goes and you're liable to find mature deer like that in any state.

I've really been slacking this year.

Between work, the baby, and finishing up a degree my posting time has dropped.

No worries though, still plenty of adventures happening and here soon we are going to hit the meat and potatoes of the season. :D

69 days until my elk hunt!!!!!

Let me try to do some catch up:
    - I didn't draw Wyoming deer
    - I drew a rifle quota hunt in Florida
    - Oklahoma draws are 12 days away
    - I applied for TN quota hunts
    - Texas quota hunts soon and I'll apply for those!

I've been doing lots of shooting, training, and prep for my hunts.
It's going to be such a great year.

To help pass time I've been doing a lot of fresh water fishing.
I'm not really good at it, but I make it fun ;)

Last night was elk burgers cooked on a Colman grill, a quiet little pond, and some fish!

Not all of the fishing trips have turned out so well.

This was one spot I found on base.
Within 15 minutes it went from nothing to.... well.... take a look.

    :mad::mad::mad::mad:

Photobucket went and broke the internet....
Now 75% of the photos I posted in the thread already can't be seen anymore.

I'm also not going to pay them $400 annually to post pictures through them, so I have to start from scratch again.... no biggy.....

    It's about to be a HUGE YEAR!!!!:eek::

    Some updates....

I spent the last 4 days up in Kentucky setting up cameras, stands, scouting, and prepping for the season.

I've found some KILLER SPOTS.... one that I'm uber excited about.
I've never hunted creeks before, but on the private land I'm hunting, there's a creep that separates thick bedding areas from corn fields.
There's lots of beaten down crossings and also more trails of deer who are using the creek itself to travel into other properties.

I'm thinking it'll be great to sit here in November when the bucks are crushing for does. I'm hoping to catch them cruising the creek or too and from food/bedding!

Also.... check out what else I found (see pics)

On another note.... today was the Oklahoma controlled hunts release.
I DREW AN ANTELOPE TAG!!!! To make it even better it lines up perfectly with my elk hunt. So I won't be wasting leave to head out again.
It's a doe only permit, but I get two tags!!!!! Yum yum yum!!!!

Strange they'd plant maters out in the woods like that; but they seem to be doing well.

Alright folks.... this is extremely overdue...

I've been slacking this year because I've been working on some crazy work projects, some personal projects, and I was PO'd that photobucket went crazy and all the pictures disappeared.

No reason to stay mad over something silly like photobucket and I've found some new photo sharing sites, so you know what that means...? It's go time!!!!!

I leave Thursday evening from Florida and drive out to New Mexico!!! IT'S ELK TIME!!!!
My elk hunt is Sept 1-14th and I have an antelope doe hunt that I'll be hitting on the way back in Oklahoma. It's going to be a busy two weeks!

I'll try to send some updates from the field, but I promise I'll take TONS of pictures and videos to report back with :D

    Thank you, sir!
I think you're right, I should just skip the hosting sites all together.

I can't wait to come back with some stories for you all.

So.... I'm still up in the mountains. I may have done something.... I won't be mean like previous years and show you a bloody arrow, but you can't get stories until I'm home. So I'll leave this right here.

Yes I did! That storm is nasty. I'm still in the mountains. This new forum platform is not showing me much. Did my picture attach to my post a few days ago?
