I had the Blues as in Blue Cats

Friday the wife asked "are you going fishing, as it might be the last decent day in a while?" I was not real enthused as Wednesday I went and it took forever to catch some bait and I fished for 5 hours and did not get one bite. Hit all the good places and not so good places and nothing.

Figured might as well go try again, at least get out of the house. and be happy if I got a bite.
I caught some bait, then figured I would just go to a close spot even though i did not get a bite there Wednesday.

We're starting to catch them at the lake on crappie minnows, nothing that big, but good eat'n size. Best part is we're starting to hammer Crappie as well! :) win win.

Went fishing Tuesday, did not plan on it, took the vacuum cleaner to clean the boat and download an update to my fish finder. While the down load was going, I thru the cast net out and second cast caught about a dozen 10 inch shad, last time it took over an hour to catch 3. Figured might as well go fishin. went to the first spot I took Sam to back last year, in the first 3 hours I caught one I thnk 18lbs. Then I caught a 30lb, another hour and nothing, then about 4 pm, not sure if a school came by or they just started biting as the wind had died down to nothing. Could not keep the lines in the water, at one time I had 3 on at one time. The updte was taking forever and all this time I thought I was down loading the update I had put on the SD Card, well come to find out, I guess I screwed up cause it down loaded the map from the fish finder to the SD card.

When I started this thread, that day I could not catch any shad, nothing was showing up on the graph, after about an hour of throwing the cast net I caught a 3ish lb carp and used it.
This last Friday after Sam and I caught some bait and not blue cats, a lady who lives there said the day before I caught the carp in the cast net, there was 300-350 Pelicans in there herding all the shad. She said they were landing in the river and coming in groups. She showed me a video on her phone, the place was packed with Pelicans and no, they were Not Snows

oh here is a shad Sam caught 1.77lbs, not sure why he threw it back, was probably some good eatin. :ROFLMAO:

Today, after dropping the grandkid off with his parents, the wife wanted some peace and quiet so I went fishing as I too was wore out by the 6 year old .
3 hours of nothing beside a couple bait stealers, then caught a couple around 18lbs and 3lbs and then the one below. That was a lot of fun in heavy current with my bad back and did not have my back belt on. and of course caught in on one of my light rods... caught it on a 3-4 inch shad with the tail cut off..

Where's the pic of the one below fish? That's a monster shad of a bait!!!!

Been pretty slow around here for me, between work and the kiddo I haven't been out until yesterday chasing the walleye spawn been skunked 2 days in a row don't know what the deal is, I found them they are just tight lipped and the rain tonight wasn't nice but I'll be after them tomorrow, and back to the river next weekend hopefully with some more hero pics
The one below showed up finally, that would be a fun fight. Awesome catching!!

Nice work on the big blue! Did you put it on the scale?
Looked up the state record shad and we were still almost a pound short!
Hopefully all these shad live and spawn, because I've got 6 bait ponds stocked now!

Bit of a slow day but we did put 3 in the boat and got this young man his biggest fish to date an 18lber!! The other 2 we're smaller in the 5 to 10lb range, all in all a decent day to play.

Sunday it was really windy. River is running about 255,000 cfps n anchor kept braking loose. All wing dam’s were under water. Fishing at the end of one of them got caught in a whirlpool. While heading to truck figure might as well tie up n re-rig 2 of the rods that got broke off. Threw a couple rods out n commens’d to rigging. Seen I had a nibble. It pulled some. I cranked down and the fight was on. Drag was pretty tight but it was pulling drag an it was hard to get the rod out of the holder. Started to pump him in It then decided to swim to me. Cranking as fast as I could didn’t know if it was still on or not. He let me know when he was about 30 yards out. Fun while it lasted. Only bite of the day but it sure was a frustrating day.

Nice fish! It’s getting to be the time of year when they get out in the current and don’t mind eating cut carp or whatever you can throw at them.

Very nice, I don't get to play again for a couple weeks but I'm excited to get out there again. Put a 27 in the boat a couple weeks ago

I bought a new "better" anchor yesterday and on the way home, thought, Catfish Dave uses cinder blocks for anchors, would have been a whole lot cheaper.
fyi: Catfish Dave is a U-tube catfishing character
How do you anchor in the river? Seems like you would still be forced down river since you're essentially a big bobber, do you use it to slow you down and still drift for say?
