First hunt was in the house stand on 10/1/17. Seen 8 does/fawns. South wind. The road in the middle divides the oats on the right and wheat on the left. There is a turnip/rape/radish plot on the other side of the stand I'm in.

    Sixth hunt.

    10-28-17 am
Took my son out for the youth hunt. Seen one doe at 7:35am and she came to about 40 yards and stopped. Never gave a broadside shot until she move west and now she was about 60 yards broadside. He got on her and this was he first deer so it took a little bit to get settled. He shot and it appeared to be a miss after looking.

After that we went back to the house and practiced shooting some more. Shot about a box of shells and then he and I were feeling better about it and was he excited about his shooting.

    7th hunt.

    10-28-17PM.

Youth hunt number two with my son. Slow evening until about 6:15. One doe came out at about 65 yards broadside. Again took a bit for him to get settled but after he did she move in to about 30 yards. By that time doe number 2 came out and she was spooky. She went out to about 50 yard and turned broadside again facing the other doe. He got on he and I talked him through his breathing and told him when he was ready to shoot. Boom and then she runs off tail flickering. I watched the shot and it looked good. Doe number 2 stayed in the field and watched us walk to the spot of the shot. Found hair and then went to where she went in the woods. As I stepped into the woods I seen the white belly. He was super excited and of course I was too.

Double lung and she ran about 60 yards. He said later that night when it all sank in that he cant stop thinking about how good he did today and how he provided food for the family.

    8th hunt.
    10-29-17

Cold morning with 18' on the thermoset. Very slow morning until 9. Heard a buck grunting on the next ridge over so I got the can call and grunt tube going. About 5 min later a young 8 came in. I gave him a pass as he walked 5 yards from me. He walked up the hill and then it was on. I didn't know I had 2 does up there and he was chasing them all over until they went out of sight.

8.1.jpg Then about 9:20 I seen antlers to the north about 80 yards. Used the can call again and he came in on a string. He was a very large but and I had a shot at 26 yards but I passed do to quartering to me and he was going to walk into a opening to at 20 yards. I drew when he was in the brush and behind a tree but he then stopped. I don't know if he seen me or heard me but after about a min or 2 he walked straight up the hill. He didn't blow or run but he was defiantly leaving. If I were to guess he was about 150-160.

    12th hunt 11-4-17 P.M.

    Had seen 5 deer.

Mid afternoon has a fawn size spike come through. Shortly after that a young doe followed the same path going into the cedars. About 4pm has what I thought was a mature doe coming in so I got ready and drew on it at about 10 yards. He then turned his head and I could see it was a very short spike so he got the pass. Right before dark two does walked towards the food plot.

    17th hunt 11-17-18 PM

After dropping the kids off at school I took my climber to a ridge top for a very windy afternoon sit. First time I sat in this spot but I was able to cover 2 ridges. Seen 4 deer. Had 2 does come through on the ridge I was watching at 2pm and then at 2:30 I seen a nice buck following their path. Couldn't get a real good look at him so he got the pass. At 4:30 I has a nice young 8 come down the ridge grazing and can within 60 yards and crossed the ridge I was on. Let him go to see another day.

    18th hunt 11-18-17 A.m.

Hunted a stand I haven't hunting in a few years and seen 5. Had a small 6 come down the hill from the food plot. While watching him I didn't realize I had a doe behind me and seen me moving with the binoculars. She blew and made a big scene. A few min later seen a yearling going away from me and then seen a small buck following. Didn't get the best look at him but he was young. About 10 min later a large buck followed the same path. He was mature body wise but when I had a shot I couldn't see the head and when I seen the head I couldn't see the body. So I was forced to pass.
