i am hunting on my great great uncles land with my dad. we are about the only ones who help him out on his farm. my uncle is 89 yrs old so he doesnt get out to much and doesnt really "police" his ground during deer season or for that matter any time. i am just sick and tired of there being 5-6 different hunters from one group who think they need to hunt not more than 150- 300 yards away from my stand, let alone their 10 stands they have all over. thats my first rant.

my second is, i am tired of doing all of the scouting, putting up trail cameras, and putting out stands just to get a phone call from my cousin saying he hoped he didnt mind that he hunted out of my stand and shot a nice main 8 with a couple of kickers, one of the deer i had on trail cams. i know this is the second or third nice buck that has been taken out of my stand. :mad2::mad2: so that brings me to the question does anyone know how to make something for a hangon stand so you can remove it easily after you are done hunting.

Removable climbing sticks woudl work great. Not telling the familly what is on the gaem cames would help as well.

The "I've been seein lots of deer over here"where I aint seen even a track in years usually works for me,especially if it looks "deery" and is easily accessible for the ones who dont like to exert much if any effort, which is usually the case if they cant or wont scout for themselves.

I feel your pain. When hunting family land or a lease these problems always come up. Few are willing to put in the time and money to make a great hunting area. Lots want to harvest the rewards of your hard work. About the only thing you can do is try to establish some kind of rules, but remember you are out numbered by the ones not willing to put forth an effort.

I have made it a goal to start working toward buying my own property I can control. I think it would be better to have a smaller area I can control than a larger are that I have no conrtol.

yeah thats what i told my wife. its not like there isnt enough land, he has over 600 acres. i think i am either going to start taking my stands out and putting up with the idiots that think they need to sit right on top of you or move my stands ot another spot that doesnt have quite the deer movement and work on getting them up there from the bottom lands.

[rquote=1479393&tid=103408&author=trappersteve]Put up a stand and don't tell anyone where it is...or make a rule that if you hung it....you hunt it, unless otherwise told. [/rquote]

its hard to enforce rules when your not there and cant keep an eye on who is coming and going

My brother and I had the same problem. One year we built a stand behind the barn, then took a hoof off a bow kill and made tracks all around the pond, road horses back and forth until there were 3 trails, and used a wood rasp on a dozen sprouts. My brother in law sat in the stand every day of both weekends.

Another thing to remember when you put in the work to develop an area and it works. The deer will be using the area and will leave more sign in your area. When I was on a lease. I would do my best to hide my food plots. I can't blame the other members to much when they started looking for sign it would always be in my areas. They had the right to hunt the lease as much as I did. I had people put stands close to my food plots and they did not even know it was there.

You might be able to make a hanging bracket out of square tubing.

Secured with a strap, It would be about 8" x 8" piece of flat steel with holes for the strap. Welded onto the flat steel would be two verticle pieces of 1.5" square tubing 6" apart.

On your stand then you could fabricate a male bracket out of 1" suare tubing to slide down inside the 1.5" to hold the stand solid, then attach the ratchet strap like normal, to hold your stand from wiggling.

It would work kinda like the t-screw thing but about 100 times stronger and easier. It would work really quick too, once you secure the first bracket you can leave it up and just drop your stand into the slots and its there.

I think jakesdad had the best idea.

Pick out an area on the farm where you hardly ever see deer and make a bunch of fake rubs on a bunch of very noticeable trees plus make a few large fake scrapes where a blind man could find them. Show your other hunters your photos and tell them of your (fake) "Honey Hole".

Sit back and watch the fun on opening morning.

BTW....this very stunt was pulled on me about 35 years ago. Broke me of taking advantage of others work.
Good Luck
