disassembled the encore, gave the barrel the boiling hot water treatment, let it dry, mixed up my grease and oil paste and coated the bore, cleaned the trigger mechanism, pulled the firing pin mech and cleaned, scrubbed the breach plug cleaned the internal BP threads, greased it and installed just finger tight, wiped everything outside down with an oil patch and it is now put away for a short storage, how short depend on when the crew wants to hit the range, but im betting we won't see the range for a month or so, if anyone wants to see how the boiling hot water process works i have 1 more muzzleloader to do and am willing to video it, it's a good technique for cleaning as long as it's rolling hot, and once the barrel is heated from the hot water, and you remove it from the water it flash dry's

Id like to see it for sure. I was wondering if it would have any effect on the scope mounts mainly. Or if you take the scope off first

nope just the muzzle is immersed into the pan, remove the breech and patch and jag is used to suck water up into the barrel, scope and mounts stay well above the pan of boiling hot water

Ive been anxious to try it since I read your post the other day about it. But until you flipped on the light switch on how to suck the water up into the barrel I was worried about putting that kind of temp into the barrel without the expansion from the heat having some kind of effect on the scope mounts.
Im sure the temp inside the barrel is much high from ignition but its a short time period compared to have boiling water fill the barrel up.

anywho now i gots a better imagin my feeble brain and will give it a go this weekend.

Thanks for the info.

And I dont have one o dem wifey thingys so all the pots and pans in the house is mine! :D

Its the original way to clean a smoke pole before inlines.Where in originally the stock was removed from the gun and the breech end of the gun was submerged in the hot water and was drawn up the barrel thru the flash hole...

[rquote=1523292&tid=106165&author=Mailman]Will this technique effect the temper of the barrel in any way?.....just wondering:thinking:[/rquote] no, it don't get that hot, rolling hot water MM not molten lava:rof2::rof2::rof2:

water boils at 212 degrees F...it takes alot higher temps to affect the temper of barrel steel.....Moreover it dont actually have to be boiling hot to do a good job of cleaning, it just dries faster (evaporates) the hotter the water is..
