I had the same thing happen to me with a monster a few years ago ended up waiting we'll after dark before getting out of my stand so I didn't spoke him or at least him not knowing what's spoking him and never seen him again.

I watched that buck bedded down and feeding on green soybean leaves for 45 minutes from 53 yards.

Bedded at 53yds and you didn’t shoot him?

One of the biggest bucks killed, I believe in MO, was killed in a situation just like yours by sneaking/crawling the the beans to get in range then getting the deer to stand. The story was on a BPS big buck tour deal. Id have had to give it a shot.

I thought about that, but was afraid he would see me climbing out of the stand. I barely made it out close to dark to help my son.
