That's about the going rate. Academy is trying to push them with this rebate too. The rebate is good for anywhere. Wally World tends to have a bunch of common calibers in stock.

Straight shooting gun. I suggest a guy get their own set of rings and at least a Nikon 3-9x40 scope though.

One of those in 243 Win or 7mm-08 makes just about a perfect MO Deer rifle for a lifetime if need be.

Nuttin fancy, but Savage does make an accurate, reliable rifle for sure.

Make a nice gift for any young aspiring deer hunter. :D

I was thinking a 223 for a truck gun on the farm.

I don't have much experience with the bundle of axis II's I bought from Gander Mountain's closing sale, but the scopes are actually pretty clear Weavers. Looks like the scope retails for $100 on Midway, etc..
That said, after sighting in a couple of them with very minimal bullets, the 308 took almost a box until I realized I could spin the scope in the mounts if I put much torque on it. Haven't tightened them down to sight it in yet.

    Yes
No, but it takes about 5 minutes to fix the standard trigger.

I have 2 in the 25-06 and wouldn't recommend anything in that high of a caliber for the Axis. Shooting more than 3-4 rounds through it gets the barrel supper hot and starts throwing rounds all over the place.

    Oh Fallon
Every time I put a ding in my stock, or it rains/snows, I wish I had one of these vs the pretty deer slugger I have. I just can't bring myself to put plastic in my safe.

jehrbo at this price you don't have to keep it in the safe, If I get one it will stay in the truck in the barn and I'll just risk it getting stolen.

Picked one of those up last year in .243. Grabbed a trigger spring from the internet, and now she shoots just fine for little ole me.

I just picked one up at wally world. Before I left there were 4 people in line to get an axis or the stephens 320

    flatlander_ Really? Show me. .

I just seen this thread and I was just thinking today I'd like to have a .223 in a bolt action. I have a single shot and an AR already in a .223 but want something with a little better accuracy than the AR and more rounds than the single shot.

I'm going to have to go get one of these I guess. From what I'm seeing on the web it looks like you can get them with a sporter barrel at 6.5 lbs and a heavy barrel at 8 lbs.

I would prefer the heavier barrel myself. Anyone else have any insight on this? Which one did you buy?
