Full choke for doves

I normally use my Baikal 12 gauge with a modified choke but I have a bunch of 20 gauge dove loads and would like to use my dad's old Remington 1148 but it has a fixed full choke barrel. I really like that old gun and would even love to try waterfowl with it but I've always been afraid to shoot steel through that choke. So for doves I guess my question is go with the full and get some extended range or miss everything close and use more shells anyway lol.

Anybody shoot doves with a 20 gauge full?

Let them get out there a ways.
Heck yeah ....use the full on the higher flyers and have someone with imp/mod choke shoot cleanup
Those guns were made to be shot. Aren't they making bismuth shells again ? I've got an 1148 28 gauge I like them . I'm sure your dad would want you to use it.

I use an old 12 gauge Steven's double barrel. One side full the other modified.

I'd go for it but don't let 'em get too close otherwise there will just be a bunch of feathers floating around. :)
Great for shooing em off the wires :D

What choke does your 11-48 - 28 have? Mine had mod and shoots a tight mod, but it is about right for the shots I get. I do have some bismuth shot but have not had occasion to use it much.

Mine is mod also . I haven't dove hunted with it only rabbits so far . Haven't done the doves for a while. Public grounds are just too crowded. Need to do a feild on my property.

Understood - I have a similar plan, but have not set up a dove field yet. I do shoot sporting clays now and then however and usually dove hunt with a 20 with lead or steel, bismuth too expensive to burn up! :)
