Here's a note from the folks that run this shoot, on what is to be expected. This range is set up by a non profit organization that promotes youth archery.

We have 24 targets, but we hope to have another 6 soon. We have the course set up with 20 targets, shooting from two different locations at each one. We have Rinehart targets. You won't shoot the same style of animal twice. We have two turkeys, but each are in different motions (one strutting one walking). We have two boars (one rising and one standing). We have several different animals that you don't always see on a 3D course as well. We have a stegosaurus and a velociraptor. We have a baboon and a raccoon. We have a leopard, a bobcat and a cougar, antelope, dall sheep, stone sheep, catalina goat, skunk, coyote, black bear, javelina, rubbing buck, feeding doe, fallow deer, a second antelope that is used for the long shoot and a small cinnamon bear used for a 3day/2night vacation giveaway at each shoot. The velociraptor will be running on a cable toward you, the baboon will be riding a sled contraption left and right of you and the racoon will be digging through trash on a trashcan, otherwise, all targets are on the ground like what is typical.

Come on out and try the course (and the chili)... and bring some friends too... We would love to have your opinions

the plan as of now is to attend. we plan on arriving right about 8am, if the weather is holding out. i will be the one searching for arrows behind the target using my safari protec to beat on trees in frustration. :wink4:

Keep in mind that in May they hold the 2nd Leg of the Deermans Triple Classic. Gives ya plenty of time to practice, and if ya miss a target it's better than getting wound.

To answer your question about the deermans next weekend, it is in Carrollton, range is easy enough to find. People in the town don't seem to like outsiders, and the shoot they had earlier this year was pretty good. To get to the range you take the second Carrollton exit off of 65, turn left at the top of the ramp, go through the town square, shoot is on the left side of the road about 1/4 mile past the square.

They have thirty targets, a few bears, turkeys, two hunting blind shots, wolves, a big armadillo that looks more like a giant rat. It was a good shoot. Lots of up and down on the hills, good work out.

They scoring system for deermans is a bit different. You get 15 for the center ring, 12 for the one outside of it, and 10 for the rest. Minus 5 if you hit anywhere outside of the vitals. So it's better if you just miss.

They have three divisions and several classes in each division. Most people shoot the hunter division.

You can check their website for more details. www.deermanstheworld.homestead.com

Hope to see you there.

GmBellew, Good to meet you also, sorry to here about the wifey feeling bad. The shoot was pretty good, started out abit slow but they finally got a pretty decent group of floks there to shoot. Pretty good outing myself, finished 2nd in the Bowhunter class and Bodoodle took 4th.

The Deermans always put on a good shoot, like BTH mentioned the scoring is a little different, and they won't have any of those moving targets:D. It would be well worth the trip.

One thing though, (BTH has he dates off abit) Saturday and Sunday the 24th and 25th is a Deermans Qualifer at Sibley (Independence) and on April 1st and 2nd is the 1St Leg of the Deermans Triple Classic in Carrolton Mo. Were planning on making that shoot but on the 24th we'll be in Osceola for a shoot. Personally I really like the concept of the Deerman Shoots. If ya get a chance get out and shoot one.
