Food plot or big woods for youth?

1367 Views 11 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  fishshooter
Playing some mind games on where to go sit for youth season. I have a good box stand that looks over a couple good clover plots mabey a couple acres at most. Can see some woods but not much. My gut always says to go hunt the big hills and woods hoping for a big guy roaming. Or sit on a hill overlooking some creek bottoms that have hills going up both sides for quiet always. Son only wants a decent buck. I think he is more picky than me. Any thoughts

Depends on the kid. If they are experienced and can manuver a gun and pick their shot...take him to the woods in the morning. Fields are better in the evenings imo.

My thought exactly
I like woods in the morning and fields in the afternoons
Makes sense and yes he can shoot. We have a stand on his lucky hill gonna try then hit the box blind if it gets to cold.

Why change a good thing.

Creek bottoms are classic rut funnels this time of year. Hunt em
Going to be interesting, we will go woods in the morning and out big plot is pretty overgrown due to the tractor being out of commission. So, things apparently look more like a bedding area, actually looking forward to an afternoon sit there to see what it brings! May hunt the woods both sits?????

Heading out to the bow stand shortly!
For sure woods in the AM, wouldn't be shy about them in the PM either, around here seems there wasn't a lot of white oak acorns, but there is a lot of red and black acorns and they are on them. That said there were two does in the back yard plot last night.
