We have a spot we wanted to plant to clover this spring and I was hoping to get a late winter burn. Alas...I waited about 2 weeks too long, and there were spots that were pretty green in spots. But I really wanted to get it burned and planted in clover now. So...I filled my sprayer with vegetable oil and sprayed in the greenish spots before we set the fire. It worked pretty well...and smelled like popcorn!
YMMV...and always follow good fire safety measures, get trained, etc. We ring the area with a proper down-to-mineral-soil plowing, then wet that down, then post two guys with back pack water sprayers and one with a blower around the edges as we move from downwind to upwind....
