Our first kansas turkey hunt was pretty good. The heat and hens did'nt make push overs out of the gobblers,,but it was fun. We went on the spur of the moment so to speak and did our scouting and hunting at the same time on public land. You can burn some gas up checking out the WIHA's but there are enough decent one that you can find birds if you look. I got one decent tom and should have killed as second, but was alittle too conservative and thought he would give me a closer shot,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,he did'nt. The hen he was with turned and fed away taking him with her, by the time I realized what was going down, all I had was a texas heart shot,,,and I don't take those on anything especially a turkey with a shotgun. All three of us had birds work the calls and give us good shows,so I would call the trip a success.

    My first Kansas gobbler.

Oh yeah,,,this one fell victim to the Poor Valley glass call, I was using it for alittle higher pitched volume, because we were hunting the edge of a large patch of prairie where I killed this bird and I wanted the sound to carry alittle further. He had 1 inch spurs and two 9 inch beards.

Congratulations. What part of Kansas did you hunt? I hunted NE Kansas this season for the first time with good success. I'm trying to figure this digital camera out to post some pics.

If I remember right , you said you hunted Nemah county. We were mostly in Washington county about 2 counties west of there. We wanted to increase our chances of getting a Rio.
