Fall canola food plots

Does anyone have any first hand experience with canola for a fall food plot?

I was asking around today for something to mix in with my ww or to try instead of ww and one guy mentioned he knew several people that swear by canola.

From what I have read about it, can be planted now and is a form of rape. I have never planted rape but sounds like canola is similar to turnips as after a few hard frosts it's like candy to deer.

Not sure on the price for a bag of seed but would love some first hand knowledge before giving it a try.

I've had good luck with rape, never planted canola.
Rape is basically a forage canola

Is it too late to plant rape and can it be mixed in a ww plot or do they need to be separate

Rape also makes a tasty salad. I look forward to fall rape, turnips and radishes every year.

Don't eat salad at my farm. The deer would kick your arse :D

Apparently there's 2 separate versions of Canola seed. For fall plotting your going to want to make sure your purchasing the cold tolerant or over-winter variety. Tecomate has a foodplot version. There's also a round up ready version but it's obviously a warm/summer variety. Canola doesn't need the cold weather/freeze to make the forage more palatable compared to other types whereas they convert more sugars after hard freezes.
