I have a Remington 700 ADL that has developed an odd problem.

On 3 seperate occasions...once last year, twice this year...I have taken the safety off and pulled the trigger...the trigger did not move and the gun did not fire....

Any ideas as to what may be the cause?

That was my first thought, too. If it's got the J-lock, it will likely have problems, somewhere along the line. I've seen them rotate "on" when my buddy was shooting, tying up the firing pin. I've also seen it go the other way (on the same #*($&$&% rifle) and go off when he took off the safety. The best long-term bet, if it has the horrid J-lock, is to replace that with an older-style assembly, from Darrell Holland or some other seller. You can get them from Midway, or Brownells.

If there's NO J-lock, it could just be gunked up trigger guts, and a gunked up bolt. Take it to a smith and have them take those items apart for a good cleaning and bath in lighter fluid.
I say take it to a smith because you don't want to buy the specialized tools for bolt disassembly, Remington bolts are a pain to take apart, and worse to put back together.:cool3: Come to think of it, take it to the smith for him to install a Holland bolt assembly, too, same deal.

Is there a "pimple" with a J-shaped hole in it, on the back end of the bolt? Did it come with a green spikey J shaped wrench thingy to turn the pimple?

My boy has a Jlock on his 700. We have just left it unlocked and never had a problem. Does Remington know there have been problems?

Oh, you betcha:D they know about it. It's been discontinued for about three years now, because of the problems.

Wonder why no recall. Can you tell me where to get a replacement bolt?

Typical thread regarding J-locks:D:D:D

No recall, it might cost a $$ or twenty million to fix. Oh wait, they did, they quit using them:claphands:

Brownells, Midway, and Darrell Holland sell replacement assemblies, no need for a whole new bolt. Google up[ Remington J-lock problems], you might actually get an addy for the actual replacement parts, I didn't look that far.

Jim hasn't replaced his yet, either, but he keeps that silly J wrench in his shooting box, and he doesn't hunt with that rifle, either. He doesn't trust it.

I googled it and didn't see a plethora of problems listed. I'll keep reading though. Can't decide whether to switch it out or not.

Nope...don't see anything like that on the bolt and do NOT remember any tool coming with the gun and I bought it brand new.

Anyone in the St. Louis area have any gunsmith recommendations? Someone that is trustworthy, good and reasonably priced?
