dove hunt for hunters with mobility impairments

Handicapped dove hunt offered Sept. 3

Ten Mile Pond Conservation Area will host the event for hunters with
mobility impairments.

SIKESTON, Mo.-Hunters with mobility impairments will get a special shot
at dove hunting at Ten Mile Pond Conservation Area again this year. The
Conservation Department and the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF)
are sponsoring a special event for disabled hunters Sept. 3 at the
conservation area in Mississippi County.

Event organizer Larry Neal said only one hunter took advantage of the
opportunity last year, and quickly bagged a limit of doves. The event
can accommodate up to 15 hunters. Areas are reserved for hunters with
mobility impairments, and NWTF volunteers serve as guides, helping hunters
get to and from the field and retrieving downed birds.

Participants should arrive at Ten Mile Pond CA headquarters before 6
a.m. and must leave the fields by 1 p.m. They need small-game and
migratory-bird hunting permits and hunter education certification cards. For
reservations, call Larry Neal, (573) 334-8881, or Tim Hendershott, (573)
335-9350.

That one hunter last year was me. I'd have gotten my limit even quicker with more hunters to keep the birds moving. They kept landing just out of range, and I sat there watching them walk around. It was a great hunt!

I'd like to see da Chairman join us this year, along with any others who can make it.

Thanks semodeerhunter. I put it up in my opportunities/hunting section and told as few others about it as well. Hopefully I can scare you up a few more participants.

I talked with one of the coordinators today (Larry Neal), and I'm in!

He said they have 4 hunters lined up, so far ~ and they would like to see 15!

Hey, Hawghead ~ what type of shotgun (action - pump or semi-auto?) do you shoot? I have a Rem. 870 pump, and wouldn't mind bringing it along for you to use, if you can't get yours fixed in time...or I could ask one of the coordinators whether they'll have shotguns available for hunters to use. When I talked to him today, he said they're supplying the steel shot, so I don't think it would hurt to ask about an extra shotgun...

I know what ya mean ~ it's WAY down South...about a 5-6 hr. drive for me. Really lookin' forward to it though, in spite of the driving time.

Maybe we can get together some other time, Hayzer?! I could always use a Coach! :D

The wife bought me a trap thrower awhile back, and I just got a post in the ground to mount it on. Gonna do some practicing, before the hunt.
