Just wondered how many of you guys do your own bow setup, maintenance and tuning? I do my own bow setup , tuning , restringing ,serving peepsights ,fletching, etc.
I learned to do my own work years ago after having a few (out of state) proshops mess up my setup .
It's not really that hard if you know the basics and you can do as much as you feel comfortable doing.
Now I'm not advocating DIY to take away any business from the local proshops , but there are a few things that can be learned and are good to know in case you have a repair to make in the field without a proshop nearby .

I started doing my own several years back when it took so long to get it done at the shops. Have about everything I need and do several other peoples bows in my shop downstairs. Haven't run across anything I can't handle yet. One of these days I will have an indoor archery range in the KC area. :2thumbsup:

Very few guys I would ever trust to work on my bow. A little mechanical ability goes a very long ways in being a good bow mechanic. I'll tell ya how I learned. I had a string break at a shoot over in Quincy IL one day. The old man that ran the shop we were shooting for threw me the keys to the shop & told me there was a new string on the bow sitting in the vice. Said take that one off & put it on your bow & get back here asap. Been doin my own work every since.

as a beginner, Im still learning and trying not to ask too many stupid questions. Actually doing more than shooting is beyond me. I have gotten sites adjusted and at ten and 20 yards feel great about my shooting in a short time. Now im trying to understand why the arros do odd things at 30 I dont see at 20.

There are no stupid questions in regards to bow setup . I have helped many beginning archers get started in person and on forums like this one .
That is what is so great about these forums is that they shorten the learning curve . The hard part is learning to sort out the good info from the useless info. :)

I started working on my own because no bow shops around here knew what I was talking about when I asked them to set my bow's ata and cam timing to specs. It's nice knowing what exactly has been done to my bow and it's always more fun doing it yourself anyways.

i used to race motorcycles and I only trusted myself working on anything but engine work....same thing goes with my bow after seeing a few yahoooo works on my old bows. got a drawboard and press and pretty much any other tool that I need for now...if something comes up I buy the tool and get it done.

[rquote=1551766&tid=106111&author=Mad-Shooter]I do my own work as well.....much more gradifing and easier on the wallet when you do it yourself. Will still call others I know for pointers now and then though.[/rquote]

Same here:cheers:
