Has anyone tried burying their deer heads to do a euro mount? Do you wait til spring to bury it or do you bury it now? I was thinking it wouldn't be as effective to bury it now since not a lot of bugs/worms/etc are out since it's cold now. Or am I wrong? Is it just as effective? How long to bury for and any prep work before burying? Thanks.

I buried mine last year and covered it with a plastic tote with a big rock on top. It took 10 months to get clean.

I know others that did it and it was clean by spring because they put it in their garden with much better soil. I had to put mine in a Cedar thicker behind my in laws because we had just moved to Columbia and hadn’t found a house yet.

My buddy did bury his in his garden. I know he removed it several times and just moved it around when he removed it to check.

I just take off everything with knife that I can and get as much meat and connective tissue off skull then soak in water occasionally to soften up anything that has dried too hard. The brain is the worst I just used a stick and once most is out the lining of the skull drys and you it all will come out. Doesnt take too long and I usually paint the skull (flat white rattle can) in lieu of peroxide. I got mine first weekend of gun season and I have only messed with it a couple of hours and it will be done after a few more times of messing with it. burying is risky. I have had one moved into the woods, that i was happy to find in the summer.

I guess I don't understand, I have never had a boil and pressure washing last more than 1-1.5 hrs total and it is done. The longest part of the whole process for me is skinning the head.

I would think you could clean a dirty skull like the one above with some soapy water and peroxide to get it white.

I've done this before. Works find, just have to get the skull cleaned up and whitened in the spring, but it will be absolutly picked clean. I wouldn't do it with a real trophy, I'd take that to a taxidermist. But for deadheads etc it is fine and way easier than boiling in my opinion.
I have a buddy doing this right now and has done it before. He took the skull as is off the body and buried it to the eye guards. Put a metal container over it and set cement blocks on it. Don't removed till spring.
