shot at a doe, swore i missed, she didnt looked phased, tail up and took off. got down and found the arrow. Broadhead looked new, blood smeared up the shaft, shaft broken about 1/3 way up and fletchings tore. a light smear of blood but no chunks or hair. Small puddle of blood about five feet away from arrow.

it felt aweful, looked aweful, broadhead looks clean, arrow snapped.... any ideas on what kind of stick I got? Came in to eat and let it bleed.

[rquote=1511497&tid=105438&author=pinwheel]Sounds like a good hit. My guess is when she bolted, her shoulder broke you arrow in half. [/rquote]

I second that!

Good luck finding her. With the current temps I would wait until the a.m. to go look if you feel it was a marginal shot.

If she took off as you say and there was even a SMALL puddle of blood 5 feet from the arrow, you should find her IMO. Good luck.:

I'd say PW nailed it by the sounds, hopefully.
You say sounded & looked awful... as in low, far back..?
Amazing the reaction they have or lack there of sometimes when ya punch one in or thru'em.

my work will NOT left me off so I'm stuck here till 11:30 this afternoon. Will it be okay to let it lay then go look around noon or do I need to call a friend and get them out there this morning?

Should be fine to wait. Meat's probably gonna be froze solid if she's down. Good luck finding her.

when they dont know they been hit is usually a pretty good sign, hit em before and they just flinched and slowly walk away only to drop within eyesight

left work early and spent hours looking. trail started heavy and then just seemed to stop. she ran off into a field. gave up on blood and just walked around looking and nothing. got tired of spooking other deer so came home. Its an aweful feeling knowing its out there somewhere....but what else can I do?

If i were to get ahold of a dog, what would I do? put them on the original blood spot and hope he picks it up? I'm guessing since I shot it Tuesday evening it might be too late. your thoughts?

Where are you located at and if I'm close enough I would love to help you find your deer.
