Probably got scared up there by dogs or coyotes, then figured that people are less scary than a pack of dogs, and hung around.

It would have hung around but this was no place for a deer. I called conservation and they took it out to some conservation land and let it go.

Yeah, it was actually a button buck the antlers had not broke thru the skin but you could feel them when you pet it on the head.

when my wife's family bought their farm over 30 years ago, a neighbor had "adopted" a button buck...it came around every now and then begging for food...it was finally shot when it was one plus or so, it was a bit to "friendly" during rut...
