Just completed power washing my deck. Looking for advice on what stain or waterproofing treatment I should use?

That's what I used 11 months ago. Still looks great. My FIL used a different brand a couple months later and needs to be completely redone.

Some don't like the solid stain, but it last a long time.

A lot of these kinds of deck coatings have had wicked peeling/adhesion issues. I did a pool deck with one (forget the brand) thinking the textured surface would keep kids from wiping out on a wet deck, 4 years later its peeling like there is no tomorrow. I'm gonna wind up reskinning the deck as power washing doesn't peel it off and it would need sanding afterwards which doesn't get the sh*t in the gaps between boards.

Ive used Cabots on several decks, no peeling after several years.

*Wood needs to be bone dry before applying.

That textured stuff is crap, and as you pointed out, you're just about F'd when it fails.

Power washing is tedious enough. Can't imagine having to sand.
The quicker you go with a concrete deck, the happier you will be. :)

They aren't completely maintenence free, but are a lot less maintenence and much much much longer lasting.
Yep, this.

I'm serious I've been through at least a dozen deck staining's. TWP
Thats allot for 1 deck..
TWP or Cabot , you want oil based to penetrate an preserve
Linseed oil
Thats allot for 1 deck..
Two decks, two different houses, plus helped with in-laws deck too. Used Porter Paint stain for several stainings, it would last a couple of years. Switched to TWP and we get 3-4 years out it.

It is best to wash your deck with a brrom brush and soapy water 2 times a year (more if on north or east side of house)and spray a sealer on it twice a year.
That way the stain will last 5 years or more.
Power washing (on low pressure)is to be used when you have not washed your deck in years.
High pressure shreds the wood which causes rough wood and splinters for kids to collect, also water goes in deeper which takes more days before you can apply a stain.

If you want it to look good right now, buy stain at the box stores. If you want it to look good for a long time buy stain where the contractors buy it. aka buy Sherwin Williams Super Deck at the Sherwin Williams store, cannot find it at the box store, there is a reason for that

Another vote for TWP
Doing a deck right now for a customer. She bought Valspar semi transparent in a redwood color. It says right on the front of the bucket ONE COAT. Don't you believe it! This stuff is total crap! I have to recoat the whole deck which I had no plans for! :mad2:
Don't use anything. Anything you put on it will start to look bad when it weathers and then you'll have to do the whole process all over again. I just power wash mine about once a year is all and call it good. It's treated wood so it should last a long time.
