Bastian has given us a reason to quit standing around like deer in the headlights. PROGRESS IN THE UNDERSTANDING OF THE BIOLOGICAL PROCESS IS NOW POSSIBLE BUT WE NEED TO DO OUR PART THAT OTHER WISE WOULD NOT GET DONE.MDC has the importunity to be great again.REAL SCIENCE ,HONESTY AND HARD WORK IS NEEDED.We don,t need smoke and mirrors.

DESIGN FOR CONSERVATION IS THE FUNDING AND MANDATE TO USE SCIENCE TO PROTECT OUR PRECIOUS NATURAL RESOURCES.but we have not invested in the facilities , the specialized personnel and the equipment to protect our great natural resources. It is a rainy day and many more will come. A lot of good things have come from that money but we need some of it for the reason we have design for conservation.[/QUOTE]

Who is "we"??????? How is change made when you have a partial tax based entity that never has to fear losing its tax base? Regardless how you view the MDC the fact that the tax money they receive is now expected every year instead of being brought to a vote every 5 yrs or so is troubling in my view.

Every year politicians who want to get here hands on the money bring up bills . THE ABSENCE OF THE INFLUENCE OF POLITICS IS SUPPOSED TO BE ONE OF THE GREAT THING ABOUT MDC AS A MODEL FOR THE NATION.It is apparent that our model for the nation has a big flaw in it.That flaw is the board of directors. Political appointees with there own agenda. Some times IT seems that the agenda is to destroy mdc.We need the people on that board to be focused only on the job at hand . INSTEAD OF THROWING THE BABY OUT WITH THE BATH I WOULD RATHER SEE THE DIRECTORS BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE BY A VOTE OF FAITH .It almost seems like some of those people are intent on destroying the baby.

They are tracking how deer move in that region and then will compare it to how the disease is detected moving in that region. Are you guys really not able to understand that ??? Lol

    Needmore, serious
Just when you think henry can't say anything more ridiculous he raises the bar.

Now, many times in history, a deadly infectious disease, in wild animals, covering half a continent has been cured, or even stopped by eradication.

    Many times.

I am not a scientist, but the deer movement studies already completed can be applied to the cwd movement, unless of course they are tracking cwd deer ( which I doubt) or they surmise cwd infected deer move differently! Either way this study is NOTHING the MDC doesn't already have collect data

I dont know, because all I care to look for is a news clip that Rat posted, maybe they are tailoring their movement study to better gather results of movement in and around CWD areas. MDC's deer study was not initially designed specifically for CWD monitoring. Sure, one can glean results and apply them as they see fit or modify the study along the way if desired.

    forgot to add,

How much sense does it make for people to argue about things they don't know the answers to, with other people who don't know the answers?

Don't be afraid to state the following

    "we don't know"

How many times has Henry said they had stopped one ?? Ridiculous is the guys making up what Henry and others have said to attempt (weakly) to make it appear like they have actually made some sort of argument. Which by the way they haven't.

You are obviously not a scientist . I am not a scientist but can still tell you that deer movement varies with geography and climate as well as land use by humans. There isn't a one size fits all study of deer movement .

I would venture to say deer movement studies have been going on since the repopulation of the deer herd started. Probably hundreds of studies and they probably know more about deer movement than any other wildlife. Until they start to investigate all sources of infection and how it's spread nothing can fix this.

Henry , the goal needs to be the disease not moving anywhere. Are you not able to understand that.
I remember in my youth when mdc, my mentor said that deer live there hole lives in a one mile area.Even as a teen i figured out that was wrong.
You are missing the vital information that has to be understood before we can understand anything cwd. That being the biological process of how cwd is transmitted from one deer to the next.
If mdc is interested in such stuff they need to check out the articles written by Roger Rothair in 1974 in Bowhunter .It amazes me how a bow hunter over 50 years ago knew what the science even now is just confirming.

Again, unless they have identified and are tracking deer with CWD this study will tell them nothing more than all the other GPS tracking studies have. You cant tell me being CWD positive wouldnt possibly alter a deers movement patterns.....

VERY GOOD GRASS HOPPER , that is what the map comparing Illinois and Wisconsin shows . That is discussed by Illinois authorities on their site. The only reason cwd has not yet been detected in southern Missouri is that Arkansas REFRAINED FROM ATTEMPTED ANNIHILATION ONCE THEY SAW HOW BAD THE PROBLEM WAS.
The goal needs to be to contain cwd in as small a area as possible. To do that and also keep the percentage positive low to will require a plan to cull only the sick while leaving the others.
