Crossbows

I need some help on deciding on a crossbow.

Seems to be a big gap between $1000 and $2500 and I can't figure out the big differences. I do not mind spending money I just want to get value for it.

Can some of you with experience help?

I am far from an expert but I recently purchased one. My wife will be using it so I wanted her to be comfortable with it.
We went and shot several of them and really liked the ease of use of the Ravin. The ****ing mechanism was more user friendly than others we tried.
After a couple months of shooting we are still very happy.
To me the most important thing was to buy where you can shoot them first.
In the same boat, been looking at the raven 26 at first I thought it was a just a toy being so short but it fits really well, but man that's some coin for a bow. my other other pick is the tenpoint shadow nxt with the new t5 trigger and accura pro crank so I have made a decision yesterday if I get drawn for a management hunt I will get one of those two, if I don't get drawn I will just put new cable and string on my shadow and shoot it another year.

So its all up to MDC if I can a new one or not:D

So most are falling between 380 and 430 fps. Don't really know how much I need. Will 430 increase effective range that much?

I think it will shoot a little flatter the higher the speed, a little more kinetic energy to go with that. my shadow I shoot now shoots 350 which to me is fast enough. they all are gonna drop like a rock after 50. to me its all about weight and axle to axle.

Effective range is for the most part on the shooter. Yes faster bows shoot flatter but i dont reccomend shots much beyond 40 yds. To many chances for a bad shot.

Coyotehunter the tenpoint stealth nxt is a good bow it comes with the t5 and you can get the accudraw pro. Its a 400fps bow. I think youd like it.

Plenty of good bows in your price range. Mission, TenPoint, Scorpyd all good bows.
Yeah the stealth is nice just a little longer and just a little top heavy for my style of hunting.
This one wyvern has out 1299 or another dealer has the same with no extra arrows but throws in a xb30 scope for 1350 which seems worth it to me

I only have experience with the mission sub1. Like it a lot, can’t figure out how another $1000 could make it any better. It was not cheap at $1500. I love that I can un**** it without shooting it. As fast and accurate as i will ever need to kill a deer.
I bought a Centerpoint sniper 370. You can buy them for $300. This will be the third season with it and while I’ve killed a lot with it I wouldn’t recommend it because of the trigger pull. Buddy of mine has the Raven and when I shot his the first time you can feel the quality in it and it has a much better scope.
If I were you I would shoot the $1000 ones and see if you like them.
Good to read these post today. Keep this thread up to date as new models come out.

Tenpoint is always trickling down their latest and previous latest innovations thru their product line. Now, the Titan model has been "skinnied" and is in the $800 range. Maybe next year there will be an even more economical option for this new extremely narrow crossbow platform.

IMO, crossbows are worst than computers ever were in regard to paying thru the teeth for bleeding edge technology. To each their own.

edit, no, 25 years ago, computers were the ultimate at extracting money for bleeding edge technology.

I paid $3500-4000 for my first desktop computer system. 286 with a 30mb hard drive that the salesman said we would never use up. One FULL mb of memory too.

Today, my cell phone is at least 1000 times more powerful and was about $200.

That said, as far as just being able to kill deer. I dont see how xbows can get much better than the one i have.

I will wait until I can't draw my traditional or compound bows. But for now I will window shop for the best on the market.
They all shoot well from what I have seen. After seeing my dad go through 4 of them already. The main thing I would want is a de****ing ability without firing,a hand winch to **** it,and 350fps or better. So whatever you can get with those features will be worth the money

They are making strides on de-****ing ability. There's an end around on the Tenpoints with the Accu-draw system but you need to know what your doing. I would always carry a squirrel/nuisance "control" arrow with me that I used to discharge the crossbow once I was back to the cabin or truck. Just fire it into a bag type target...

In regards to sales.... I have to admit.. I was of the belief there would be more slightly used crossbows on the market since MO inclusion.... Could it be possible that MO/MDC has successfully threaded the needle when considering acquiring new hunters, hunter retention, bringing back previous bow hunters .....
BPS outlet in Springfield has a number of reconditioned Tenpoints with full factory warranty for about half price.
