I think they all shoot good and fast, where the rubber meets the road is scopes and triggers. I bought a Sniper 370 a few years ago for $289 and when starting cooling off around prime time the cheap scope would fog up so I replaced that. The trigger was unlike anything I had ever shot and I put up with that for a few years and then sent it off and had it reworked and now it’s awesome but the trigger work was $90 and the scope was $200 so I would of been better off spending $6 or $700 right off the bat.

I've been looking into an Excalibur. The recurve style is supposed to be very reliable easier to maintain. They say no press is needed for changing the string

I too have a Sniper 370 (current model is CenterPoint Sniper Elite 385) and I knew going in I was going to put a HAWKE crossbow scope on it going in so sold the one that came with it to off set the scope upgrade ..
Many of the scopes that come with even the high $$ bows are not good scopes
My Sniper is 3+ years old but make sure if you have any age or old injuries to get the windup ****er as the pull is like 190 pounds
No matter the brand or price range ..75% chance your additional purchases will be a scope and a dozen arrows and a ****er which is a windup method to re-**** the bow as opposed to using a rope to re-**** with

Look at the Wicked Ridge Invader X4 package. Great crossbow for the money. Get the Accudraw crank works very well. Should be able to buy for around $400. They are made by Ten Point they have really good customer service department . Check Wyvern Creations they nay have best price. Also Bass Pro carries them. Might also check Ten Points website they are running some good deals right now.

I will add that I don't recommend the Rocky Mountain 405. They are bad for limb breakage

I have a Barnett Whitetail hunter.. the low end one I think about $300. It was a gift but I sure got no complaints. The foregrip is nice, it's relatively light and the trigger is nice and I like the safety. I have not really compared it it to all the others so I don't know where the similarities start or end. I took off the scope and just put a staright 4 x . it's dead on at 30. 2" high at 20 and 2"low at 40.. wouldn't dream of shooting further

@90acres are you a member of crossbow nation? You might get on their market place and buy used. Some good deals to be had.

I have a Barnett xp400 . I like mine a lot , I’m confident under 50 yards with it , if circumstances are just right
Honestly, for deer hunting thats as far as anyone should be shooting at deer with any xbow or compound. Too many things can go wrong past 40 yds. I guess I am not so hell bent on killing a deer to risk losing/wounding it.

If I can see it in the scope it's fair game!

I have been hunting with a crossbow since 2015. I have taken a lot of deer, including several nice bucks. Longest shot has been 43 yds. I could have taken all of these deer with my compound when I was shooting a lot. Just because it has a trigger and scope doesn't mean it has same range as rifle. It's not a rifle regardless of what some say or believe. I passed on a super nice 10pt last Dec at about 55yds just didn't want to chance wounding him.

Ten Point makes some really nice affordable Crossbows....I've seen the Newer high end Crossbows go up in the several thousand dollar range, some even have a built in range finder and are very fast but in the end its all about knowing the yardage and not pushing the range out to its limits.I have a Ten Point Crossbow with the built-in crank...its nice to have that option and it it a nice accurate Bow.A few things to consider is the speed of the arrow, the weight of the bow and even the width of the libs when drawed in and when open after shooting if your hunting in a tight closed area like a blind or shooting house.
