Crossbow

Guy I know bought a crossbow last weekend. Was shooting it and after a couple shots he got his thumb up in the path of the string. He doesn't hafta worry about getting his thumb up there anymore, or getting his thumb up at all. Completely ruined his left hand shocker move.

What xbow did he get? It's all but impossible to get thumb up there with one I have.

I have heard that there are a few of them out there, that you really have to pay attention to though.... Man that sucks.
great weapon to introduce people to the sport:)

Wow. I saw it happen on at Ritter springs but wasn’t quite that bad. In this instance I believe it would have been stitched back on.
My crossbow wouldn't allow that either. Crossbows can be very dangerous in the hands of someone who doesn't know or doesn't pay attention.
What model/brand of X-Bow? Most Companies provide a hand guard on their bows. I have an older Ten Point Phantom that has a 2nd safety integrated into the forearm of the stock whereas the shooter has to use his support arm/hand to depress the forearm safety before the bow will fire. So there’s zero chance the bow will fire without your hand being well below any moving parts of the bow or bolt. Initially my TP phantom didn’t have the hand guard when I purchased it. I sent the bow into TP for a basic tuneup some years back and had cables and string replaced . When it was mailed back it had the hand guard in place. Wasn’t long and the hand guards started showing up on most Crossbow Companies bows. So depending on how old the bow is it manufacturer... it could be possible the hand guard had been removed??? I wish your Buddy a speedy recovery. I had a buddy take off his L pointer finger at the range with a broadhead that he was shooting out of a vertical bow with an overdraw. The broadhead-tipped arrow came off his rest and instead off letting down... he tried to set the arrow back on his rest and touched off his release during the process.

I believe it was a centerpoint dagger or something, I'm not really sure.

I believe TP manufacturers the Centerpoint Bows. I'd be surprised if the bow didn't have the guard in place... Did your friend by the bow new Vs Used? It's possible the guard was removed or never assembled on the bow...

My buddy did the same thing! Dumb **** could have lost his thumb!
Just had an accident yesterday. I was using a ****ing devise on a bow with 200lb limbs. The anti reverse switch failed as I neared full draw and the ****ing handle came slipped out of my hand as the crank reversed direction in free wheel. In a split second the crank handle had ripped into five fingers on my right hand and my thumb on the left. My trigger finger took the most abuse. My fingers look like they were hit with a hammer. No broken bones or lost digits just bloodied.

The bad on me was I had questioned whether that switch was working properly. Im as careful as you can be around these bows but wasnt ready for what happened. I got lucky the injuries werent worse.

It was bought new. Kinda the way I understood it was that he had the xbow on a rest so his support had wasnt supporting that way it should have been. He said he was focused on making a good shot and just messed up. That's all the information I have really.
