Practice lots of practice
Just to make sure I'm getting this correct ... Are some people arguing that a deer can NOT jump the string of a Xbow ???
AT DEER UN ALARMED DEER SURVIVED AT 20 AND 30 YARDS WITHOUT A HAIR TOUCHED. A BUCK WAS HIT TO FAR BACK AT 15 YARDS. A BRUTAL KILL.HE stopped 35 yards away. a couple yotes showed up he was able to run them back giving me another shot at 35 yards. He lunged forward RESULTING IN A NON PENETRATING ONE LUNG HIT . HE STAGGER BACK TO JUST BEHIND ME AND DIED AFTER A HOUR. i killed 6 deer. 6 were able to dodge sure death because of the noise of the bow. one doe at 25 yards was nicked leaving me to spend half a Day searching for her.my last shot was at a yote at 40 yards. a great shot but the coyote was long gone before death got to where he had been. When someone says a x bow is loud that is a understatement.A bad marching band would be hard pressed to make as much unnatural noise as comes from a x bow.
HUNTERS WANT GOOD TOOLS to do the job when the time comes. the compound bow gave hunters that and it has been vastly improved over time. The inline mussel loader solved a lot of the real reliability problems of a traditional mussel loader thus it was a better tool. That claim can not be made for the x bow.If the ranks of bow hunting does recruit new hunters and they really get the bug they will end up shooting a compound because it is at all levels a better tool to do the job.i HOPE THE DAY COMES SOON THAT ALL THE PROBLEMS OF X BOWS FIND ENGINEERING FIXES THAT MAKE THEM THE FINE TOOL A HUNTER EXPECTS. I am a mere mortal that has no problem using a x bow if the alternative is To not do what i live to do. WE ALREADY HAD THAT RIGHT BEFORE X BOW CRAM DOWN.iT IS A SHAME THAT MANY WILL WASTE THERE HARD EARNED DOLLARS ON A TOOL THAT AIN,T QUITE READY FOR PRIME TIME. but SOMEONE ELSE WILL GET SOME BUCKS .
Some times its the Hunter not the hunted. The crossbow is good jus need alot of practice. Its a learnin curve, they may not be fer every one. I have been shootin them fer 21 yrs n have gotten the knack on killin them tick toters wid'em
I found the opposite. Guess it depends on the xbow you shoot. Yup, they are loud... but my excalibur is very easy to shoot and 70 yards is a cake walk. Dunno if it is the speed, the small bolt or a combination, but I have yet to see one of my bolts in flight to the target. It's that fast. (I have 20/20 vision too!)
Do I like hunting with it? Nope. I feel ashamed to be seen with one. Not that there should be any shame in it, but I grew up hunting with a recurve, transitioned to compound, then went back to recurve. 46 years of bowhunting and shooting over 10000 arrows a year the past few years took their toll (plus age i suppose). I have always been against xbows during bow season until i had to sit the season out. Decided being a little embarrased was better than sitting home wishing I was out there after missing it. Wife gave me a pep talk last year and I used one (she bought it for me). Killed a couple with the xbow last year. Neither reacted one iota. Not to say the next one won't. I do know I have installed lighted knocks for this season as I can't see the bolt hit the deer, just hear it.
They are cumbersome, hard to carry and not nearly as "romantic" as a vertical bow IMO, but i could take mine out today, step off the porch at 80 yards and zip an arrow into the kill on one of my targets with little thought. Not as much challenge IMO. Actually, to me it seems as easy.as pulling the trigger on a rifle. I know some will disagree, especially over on xbow forums, but to me they are much easier to be proficient with.
And coyote is right... I killed a boat load of deer with my old Oneida. Smoothest shooting/drawing bow I ever shot, but dang they were loud!
I think so.
Naw tick toters don't jump strings, that them young'ens doin skip a rope, Ain't a tick toter alive that can jump/react quick enuff at 20 yds to get away from of the fast crossbows. Its the Hunter that needs to be in tune wid the deer as it comes in by them
I guess you can drop and arrow on metal and make sound without causing movement. You must be a magician.
Its not the crossbows fault you missed....
Go out in the woods, get in a stand, and get a deer about 40 yards away. Cough. What foes the deer do??
I think some are. My point was like the previous poster I replied to. As distance increases the likelihood of jumping the string decreases. At 10 yards a deer will react immediately. At 30 he has a chance to jump the string. At 60 -100 he will likely raise his head and look around for the sound and movement before reacting.
All the 3dshoots I have ever shot in were outside. Never heard of one inside.
Watch my video, old slow noisy Excal n see how the tick toter jumped the string
she was turning to leave before you pulled the trigger
And from that shot angle... Hmmm...
I doubt it, i shot her in the base of the neck, right where the hit. Used a 100 gr Swacker from a 185 LB Exomag Excal That is ok you can state what you think
So are you trying to say she did, or didn't jump the string???
I assumed you were saying she did since it appears you shot her in the neck, but now you say that's where you were aiming?
She was not able to jump string. She was alert mature Doe, was 6 deer couple of them were blowin. She saw the arrow comin, 22 yds, could not shoot behind front leg bad angle. Est. fps 280.
This is what makes Vertical Bows so Good especially Recurves they are so quiet a person can get off another shot most times. I know a Guy shot 6X with his Compond before killing a Doe.
My Crossbow shoots just over 300 FPS but lots of Compounds shoot as fast or Faster. So yes Compounds are much better than Crossbows if a person uses Sights.
The Big Grin shoots them and they just look at her.
Your not shooting over 30 Yards are you because I would say 40 is the max with any short range weapon? Never had one Jump the String but I've shot most 20 yards or less.
The Big Grin shoots less than 5 yards.
That tick toter 2 is a good deer. All 8 pnts are good deer.
