a friend told me where there was supposed to be a bucnh of them. I feel like they would be easy to identify and would be a good bird for me to go after.

I only know one guy who eats them, and most duckers don't even want their dogs to touch one. If you do shoot one, just know ahead of time that you'll never live it down. (I've shot them, but only for a friend to mount and sell them. I also had fun with the guys laughing at me). :D
In the ducker world they have about the same status that a meth head does in our society.

I am tellin ya,say what you must about coots. I have shot tons this year. If I cooked a mess of ducks and threw the coots in you wouldn't even tell the difference. I bet all of you that say oh those are gross haven't even tried one before. Its hillarious what folks will believe if they hear it enough. Oh and I wouldn't shoot anything I don't eat or take to the yaxi shop.

To each his own, I would never eat or shoot them fishy ol ducks!! If you are that hard pressed to shoot at something, get a beer can. It ain't like some great "COOT" CALLER called in a flock of coots. Take em guys.....that is a seriuos joke. I've heard down in the swamps of LA people eat them things, but only after they run our of **** and possum. When I lived and hunted in AR for 13 yrs, we wouldn't even shoot blue bills. No sense shooting something we wouoldn't eat. Teal is handsdown the best eating duck, followed closely by green head's/susie Q's.

BLUF; don't be killing any coots to eat, they are a fishy duck

Me and a buddy was havin a slow day so we whacked a few to try as they were everywhere, I can honestly say they will never get a chance on my table EVER again and I'm not too dang picky about food. Maybe soaking them for a week in water/buttermilk/beer/italiandressing/orwhateverelse would take away the nasty taste?
I would feed em to the inlaws though... :D

Feed em to in-laws, outlaws, moochers, noseyneighbors and best of all take a big plate of em to one of those holiday gatherings that interupt your precious hunting time. not only will you be forever unforgetable, you name will immediatly be shuffled to the bottom of the invitation list just above the guy who spilled wine on the white carpet.

Just tell em its quail, I have :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical:

Well Pastor wingers inlaws love em so I hear. :D

Coots are the ugly duckling of the waterbird world, kinda like cormorants, I'd say the waterturkeys are hated even more, but ya can't shoot them.
