Conspicuous by it's absence

Did some load development at Little Indian Creek MDC range today. Couldn't help but notice, no revolver brass laying around. And no 40 S&W.
Easy to keep revolver brass.
Has 40 S&W lost its luster?

Somebody beat ya to the goods..??
Could be. But why leave the beautiful 45's, as long as you're bending over?

Which is precisely the reason I do not load for semi-auto's.

The 40 S&W never had any luster at my house. Good cartridge, just no interest in it.
Yes. FBI and many police departments have gone back to 9mm. Premium bullets have almost made the 9mm as effective as the .40 and have a greater magazine capacity. Plus ammo is cheaper.

beat me to it..only reason I have a 40 is because my wife carries a 40 so its just smart it consolidate.. that being said if we were both starting from scratch or and unsatisfied with our CCw's I would strongly lobby for a 9mm

Enjoy shooting my Glock. With home cast bullets it is no more expensive to shoot than anything else. If brass is going to dry up might have to look at a trade or an aftermarket 9mm barrel.
Yep, last I checked Glock wasn't even marketing a .40 Gen 5 in the USA.

Yep, nailed it to the wall with that. Recoil impulse is less with the 9mm, too. The main thing is cost, really. Departments are always watching budgets, and ammo is one cost they CAN control. 9mm ammo is considerably cheaper, and with all the women being recruited for police departments, less recoil IS a consideration.

I am, at heart, a .45 guy, but I've always kept a 9mm or two around, mostly because trigger pullin' is trigger pullin', and learning how to pull the trigger correctly isn't a cartridge/caliber issue. You can get two 9mm bullets for the same amount of lead that a .45 bullet uses, and less powder, besides, so a bucket of wheelweights goes further, thus enabling MORE trigger pullin'. A GOOD thing.....

Follow up trip to the range. Needed to shoot the 300 BO. Some 40 S&W showed up. Revolver brass is still rare. 380 also on the short list
I thought seriously about getting a .40 S&W just because the ammo was available during the "shortage" a few years ago. In fact .40 S&W was the only handgun ammo I could find anywhere for quite a while.

I shared your pain. Powder and primers were also hard to find. Did a lot of bullet casting. Even bought some reclaimed shot to keep trap shooting and dove hunting. Don't mean to get political. Much better with a Republican in the White House.
