Shooting a prairie dog at 406 yards is awesome. Heck of a shot.
Colorado prairie dog hunt
We finished up our Colorado vacation with a prairie dog hunt this past Saturday. I went ahead and used a guide as I did not want to waste what little time we had knocking on doors to get permission. Glad I did as the outfitter we used was a great guy.
I asked for a lot of closer shots as we were taking a few rim fires. The action wasn't melt your barrel hot but we still had a great time. My 11 year old was sticking with 100 yard shots with the 22mag and he probably shot 15 dogs on the hunt, my wife was shooting a 17hmr and I was on my 223.
Highlights were the guide pulled out a suppressed 243 for my son to try out and he shot the furthest dog of the day at 406 yards. I also shot a rattlesnake with my pistol, which the guide grilled up with our lunch. Got to say, it tasted really good.
