Checking your Remington rifle knowledge....

I've owned many Remington Model 700 rifles over the years and I'm thinking of my next firearm purchase. I see that the Remington Model Seven's are cheaper in price over the Model 700's. In your opinion is there all that much difference between the two rifles? I'm not looking for suggestions of other brands as a selections....I'm old and set in my ways.

I'm looking at slightly used rifles in the wood persuasion.....no plastic for this old guy.

What say you?

Pretty good article on the 2 models and their differences.

If you are a hardcore model 700 shooter there are a ton of used 700's out there.
Dang Bill! You shoulda been in the market when I sold that Model 7 I did for Boogan!!!! She was special for sure!
Not that many differences. Short action, schnable forend , short barrels. Handy little rifles for sure
I'm actually looking to purchase in the future a specific caliber in one or the other model...… 260 REM. I have the Savage 99 in 260 Rem and its fine but I'm so used to a bolt gun for deer....and accuracy. Just one new project in my future.

Biggest difference is S/A VS L/A.

that said, I’d never buy a new Remmy today.

too many nicer options. :wave1:

Never seen a Timney as a factory trigger on a Model Seven. Also, as the article points out that rear action screw is TINY. I've had two of those break on Model Seven rifles. I would go short action M700 and never look back.
I’d get a blueprint Pacific Tool and a Remage barrel. Add your Timney and choice of custom stock.
And get the LA so you can take advantage of high BC bullets without running into the lands
You’ll be disappointed in a new Remington. It’s a crap shoot if get one that groups. My $.02

Blueprint cause Townsend Whelen said so.
Remage so he can say he done did it himself, and swap it out for a 7-08 down the road.
And AI to be easy on his brass and for the custom cool factor, cause nothing makes a Mailman cooler than an AI.
If he just wanted an accurate rifle to kill Whitetails inside 300yds, he woulda just gotten a Savage or Ruger American and been done with it.
If you like Remingtons then the Bergara Rifle’s is what you need to look at.They are essentially a better made Remington 700.They are super accurate and probably the best bang for the buck rifle I have ever shot.I don’t own one yet but I plan on adding it to my collection of Browning Rifles.

I will second the Bergara recommendation. If I were to buy a Remington rifle it would have to be at least 15 years old. Remington USED to be good.
