I'd keep my on some sales for a Marlin 795. I got one at ****s for $100 and BP and Cabelas all had it on sale for the same price at one time or another. It is an awesome gun for the money. I put a left over 3-9x40 Simmons Blazer on it and it shoots penny sized groups and 50 yards.

I like my Savage Mark II, in Stainless, with black synthetic stock. Reasonably priced and very accurate. Smooth bolt action. If you don't like bolt action, I'd suggest the Ruger 10/22.
