Anyone buy CCW insurance? In this sue happy world, wondering if it's not a good idea. Anyone with first hand experience?

About a year ago, I read that the average cost of defense on a good self-defense shoot was $24,000. Of course that number was probably put out by the insurance company selling the coverage. Regardless, even in the case of legal self defense there can be civil suits by family or the perp and win or lose, we all know lawyers don't suffer as long as they get there payday. I would imagine this is variable according to local and state laws and whether it is in a castle doctrine state.
Not exactly the answer you are looking for Randy but a spare mag is good insurance too.

Last I saw it was about $30 a month. Do any of you remember the Show Mes shooting?
The shooter spent $100,000 in legal fees for a hung jury . Facing another 100,000 for lawyers and another trial he chose to plea bargain down to murder 2 only out of 4 felonies and hope for early release.
I saw the actual video of the shooting in my opinion he should have been acquitted. St Louis County is not victim friendly. Bob Mccaulaoh (sure that is spelled wrong) who charged him said if Missouri didn't have concealed weapons this wouldn't have happened. He wanted to make an example out of anyone he could.
I have no intention of ever killing anyone with my weapon. I'm pretty sure where I live & the circles I travel in, makes me a pretty low risk of every having to use a weapon on another person. But there is that risk & I'd sure hate to loose everything we've worked for because some idiot forced my hand. Even 100% in the right, legal fees add up quick.

I don't think anyone that goes through getting a CCW permit or 99.9 % of anyone wants to kill someone. It's just those few. Unfortunately we aren't born with warning labels.
Hopefully anyone reading this never has to.

I've never had it, but I've read mixed reviews from some who did. (Online; I didn't know any of them).

Far more people have suggested finding a good defense attorney, who has a long history in dealing with defensive shootings. Most of us wouldn't have a clue who to call, if that sad day ever came.
Randy... 100% I would ask @cshoff on this, I believe you are facebook friends. He or Wally would have some really good advice on this I would imagine. Curious myself so relay any findings to me if you don't mind.

I got my CCW permit within months of it becoming law. I took my course in St. Louis and ALL of the instructors said if anyone in the class was ever involved in a self defense shooting (including themselves) that this was the guy they recommended for an attorney.

I have no connection to this attorney and cannot guarantee anything, but those instructors were pretty emphatic that HE is the guy to call.

A post Chris made on FB the other day is what actually spured these thoughts for me. But yes, I plan to quiz him on the subject, I'll let ya know what he thinks.

Randy I know your probably not the type to call in on a Radio show but this would be a perfect question for Gary On guns radio show on 93.9 from 08:00 to 10:00 on Sat mornings..maybe one of their guests has input. I have them on my "likes" on Facebook I could send them a message as well if you would rather go that route.

This was a big topic with my wife and I after she had her incident a few years back as it is questionable whether Boone County is victim friendly county or not. It is frightening to think that you could go broke trying to protect your right to self defense.

I have the USCCA Gold insurance, at $247 a year. Since I weekly do church security and I know the church liability does not cover me, It seemed like an easy choice.

I have met Kevin Jamison a few times, and I would contact him if needed.

I don’t have CCW insurance but I’m thinking about it. Shoot a thug and the next day they turn him into a Sunday school preacher that never did no wrong kinda of like Michael Brown.

If I am not mistaken NRA sells this kind of insurance. You might want to check with them for pricing and coverage.
