Bullet choice

Ok having a hard time picking my hunting bullet for a 6.5 creedmoor the Sierra 130 grain hpbt game king the Nosler portion 140 grain and the Hornady SST 140 grain are all shooting consistently under an inch at 175 yard. Most my stand longer shots are 300-350 so I feel anything will work at that range just not sure what will give the best performance on game. Was a big fan of the old SST in 30cal but have had bad experience with them the last two years after several years of loving them so they make me nervous. Any real world experience would be greatly appreciated.

What sort of “bad experience” did you have?
Soon as I can get back on midway (work has me blocked due to some messed up software update) I'll post what I liked. Only thing I found didn't work was some 140 grain target round, blew up and left no exit.

Had two 165 grain sst out of a 30-06 explode on impact with no penetration at 200 yards on a neck shot then had another blow through the ribs like a full metal jacket at 70 yards 3 shots on two different deer deer just worries me
I’ve no personal experience with them but the Hornady ELD-X has had great reviews in the 6.5 CM
I’ve been using Barnes TTSX exclusively for the past 10 years out of a 7mm Rem mag and had no issues or complaints.

I've killed a truck load of elk with the Remington 140gr core lokt with my 264WIN Mag ...not sure how your 6.5's RPM's are as compared to the 264 WIN ...but never had a failure to perform with the bullet in a 264 ...35 years worth is pretty good

I would say the Sierra will be fine I know they work well in a .270.My brother had success with his 6.5 using the Hornady ammo this year though. But me personally if I was thinking of shooting deer at 300-350 yards I would be using my .300winmag or something similar.Thats just my opinion which isn’t worth much ha
Sierra game kings have worked well for me in my 270. "Downsizing" to a 243 this year due to a shoulder issue, but will stick with the Sierra game kings. :elmer:
Sixkiller were all three of those rounds from the same box of ammo? Seems strange that 2 would blow up like a varmint round and the other would blow clean thru and not expand like a FMJ.

The 243 is what turned me onto the Sierra bthp game kings they work great in it!

The two that blew up were from the same box of 100 and were shot by my best friend who I load for I shot one out of the same box and it worked prefect so after having the two not act right bought a new box for last year and the only deer we killed was the one that penciled through
I have been using the Hornady ELD-X 140 grain with excellent results on the only Buck I've shot with my 6.5 CM. 266 yds, face plant, kicked twice and flopped. Plus of the ammo that I have used, these were the most accurate in my gun.

Copper monolithic solids all day. Barnes, Federal Trophy Copper, Hornady GMX, etc. Don’t know why anyone would still hunt with lead unless it was a shotgun slug.

I used to use Barnes and had some great success but some instances where it left a small hole through and through almost like it was so hard it didn't expand.Maybe was shooting the wrong type idk.I switched to a hollow pointed design that is copper with a lead core and have had nothing run from them. All the energy transfer occurs in the cavity and the wound channels are something out of a horror film
Maybe move your stand closer to the crossing ....just a thought

Then he wouldn't have a reason to have that fancy 6.5.
People need to improve on the 30 cal you know.
