I went down to my place in Morgan county to do some more mowing. I finished up today around noon. I had seen on the site where a few guys were seeing buck with velvet on their new growth antlers. I went to set mine overlooking my mineral lick and the deer had a hole 8 inches deep dug out. Good spot I thought. I strapped it to the tree and hooked up the batteries and set the timer and opened the lens and......the camera fell out and pulled out some of the wires going to the brains inside the camera box. I tried to stick them back in but they wouldn't stay so I just brought it back home. It will be another week and a half before I can go back down to set it out again. Now I have to dig out my soldering iron where ever that is and fix the thing. They shouldn't grow to much in a week or two. I thought about telling the wife that it broke beyond repair and I needed to buy a new one and the only ones that they make nowdays is the digital ones. :D I may yet......my birthday is the 30th and she did ask me last week what I wanted. Hmmmm?

Yep ~ I was out looking at my foodplots yesterday, and had 2 bucks walk into the South foodplot as I sat there no more than a minute or two.

Both had antler growth, with velvet... :D

Guess it's time to put my camera out too!

MM that sucks about the camera! Cant wait to see the pics when you get 'er up and runnin.

I talked to my dad last night about the food plot we planted about a year+ ago. He said that the clover is about 6" high and the deer are using it......ALOT. Im getting him a game cam for his birthday in July, so I can see what im missing.

Here is a short scoop on the survey....

I will be leading the charge in getting the average joe hunter to capture deer photos, under strict guidelines, and use these photos to gather info for the us to show the MDC how these cameras can give real time information, such as, deer health, density, buck to doe ratios, deer/square mile, fawn recruitment, and more info than I am able to discern. We, Buckspy Technologies and the Gateway Branch of the QDMA, are trying t recruit nationally renown biologists to help with the project, but.....I am not getting alot of help nationally. So...here is what I would like to be able to do.

1. Provide a strict guideline for census takers to follow.

2. Provide software to catalog recovered pictures.

3. Provide a server for the participants to download all pictures taken, during the survey, for speculation and proofing.

4. Be able to coordinate with all involved to cover the most area without overlapping survey sites.

5. Protect all involved with the survey, concerning property, identity, and survey areas.

6. Be able to show that the average joe trail camera specialist, should be compensated for his efforts in providing this valuable data.

7. Have fun seeing all these deer!

8. Show why it is valuable to learn deer characteristics, herd densities, age, and biology, for your specific deer management goals without being told how to do it by our MDC.

9. Relieve pressure on the MDC, to be able to combat poachers and let the us legal guys do it the right way.

10. Because I want a challenge!

We can do this, it is not a complicated matter. If we can ask you to set up a site with corn for about a month prior...this is not set in stone yet....and recover pictures for a strict 10 day period and you will be very truthful in your picture evaluation of age of bucks, doe numbers, and overall health..then I think that we all will have opened up a new era of deer management. Are you into deer management? You don't have to be...trail cameras are just a really great tool for gathering information for the deer enthusiasts to use for future evaluations. Granted, some info of trophy bucks will not be entered...enuf said! I can't expect those pictures of lottery tickets to be freely given, but if you were able to say that a quality buck, (define quality buck here....gross 150"+), this is just a example!, then those statistics would be used to define the herd characteristics.

I have been able to bleed Buckspy of the basic program for all of you that would be able to register for this survey. More details to follow....It is taking a while to figure out how to do this properly...and I am sorry if this is unclear...

Keep involved and visit www.qdmagateway.org for more details.

It was the camera that came in my DeerCam Model DC-200. It is a 35 mm Olympus Trip 505 with a 28 mm lens. I fixed it .......I think. I checks out OK. I'm going down on saturday with my travel trailer to set it up for this falls hunting and setting the camera over my salt lick.
