Guys I’m looking for a couple names of some bow only conservation areas with a primitive camp ground. I’m looking to take my 1st diy public land hunt this coming fall and the great state of Missouri has grabbed my attention. I’ve looked through the MDC site and have read up on several CA’s but can’t really find a list of archery only CA’s. Timeline for this trip is kinda flexible but I’m looking at sometime before gun season, maybe mid October to when gun season starts.

Feel free to private message me or post in this thread. Thanks in advance and if I can help any of you out just let me know!

I think Cannan Conservation area became a bow only CA a while back in Gasconade county. It is about 3 miles from me.

If you think about it, if you go during Archery Season just about every CA will be Archery Only Until Gun Season Opens.

The primitive camping part might be the toughest. Some of the areas have closed the camp grounds.

Never really thought of it that way. Guess I was wanting an archery only area due to the time I’m wanting to hunt and figured some gun hunters would be out scouting prior to gun season.

The camp ground is kind of a make or break deal. I’m really wanting to stay in a tent. This hunt will be more about the experience than killing anything. Some reason I just want to rough it for a week, kinda how I 1st started hunting when I was a kid.

    flatlander_ Really? Show me. .

Something you might try is Bushwacker CA in Vernon county. It has a campground along Bushwacker lake that is pretty nice.

The downfall might be that it is a managed hunt area now and you would have to put in to be drawn, but it is archery only up until firearms season and it is a draw area for firearms as well so pressure should be somewhat limited for both archery and firearms.

During firearms it is muzzle loader only if that makes any difference.

I read up and look at maps on Bushwacker until I realized it was a draw only area which I’m not familiar with.

Deer Ridge in NE Missouri isn't bow only, but it's ML only for firearms. Has prmitive campgrounds, and 6000 acres...

Fountain Grove is archery only with primitive camping. Just be aware that the area that can be bow hunted changes drastically with waterfowl hunting dates.

Except the guys running rabbit dogs and the squirel hunters. If they are just running rabbits and not shooting maybe they will push deer towards you.

IF they are using a shotgun, they can do that on ANY CA. To the best of my knowledge, even the archery only deer CAs are open to shotgun hunting for small game and turkeys...at least the ones I have been on are.
