Shot a black duck this morning! Was so excited its already in the freezer wrapped snug in a pantyhoe and in a zip-loc bag! Funny thing it was the only bird I shot (and shot at for that matter), and it was about 50 yards out when I dropped it.

Sorry for breaking the man rule. But today has brought some pretty exciting news even besides the duck (My school added rugby and it looks like I'll be a college athlete again! And this may be my shot at a look for the 2012 Olympic team if all works out...) and pics were the last thing on my mind.

:cheers::woot:

congrats on the duck for sure they are kinda cool looking birds.be carefull with the pantyhose thing i dont know who starte dthat whole idea but allot of taxidermy shops dont like it at all.i have seen a few birds get ruined becouse of them.the best thing to do is just tuck the head under the wing and put it in a wal mart bag and throw in the freezer and it will be more then good.the whole panyhose thing started becouse people thought it would hold the feathers in place and bla bla bla well ya it does that but trust me the feathers dont need to be held in place at all.by the time we are done turning them inside out,backwords,upside down,ringing em out and tumbling it dont matter where the feathers are while the bird is froze.most guys would really cry if they seen what we did to there birds while they werent there.the bad part about doing birds that way is well the birds are shot in the head so they usually bleed from the head.the blood soaks into the hoes and freezes and basicaly glues them to the duck.when we try to take them out allot of times it will pull the feathers out becouse its all glued togeather.another problem is allot of people just shove them in there and feathers get pulled out and quills get broken.the one thing you do want to allways do is tuck the head.i have seen allot of birds get thrown in the freezer and the neck breaks right in half becouse it wasnt tucked under the wing so allways make sure you do that.you bird will probably be fine but things do happen just tryin to help you out for next time.again congrats on the cool bird.

we did a goose a couple months ago that had been in a wal mart bag for 7 years.you deffinatly dont wanna do that but we got lucky and was able to get it re hydrated and make it look good.i would say if you can get it to a shop within a year you shouldnt have any problems at all.
