my neighbor does taxidermy and he told me to come over today because he got a couple more heads to do and that I would appreciate one of them.
He emailed me the picture, that's me holding the rack but he blanked me out. He said he scored it last night at 182" with only 4" of deductions. Can't remember if that was net or gross, so it either nets 178 or 182" as a perfect 8 point. This picture doesn't really do it any justice, but notice I'm not long arming or anything.
26" beams, 16+" G2s, 6 1/2" bases. This thing is awesome, it isn't really wide but it is super tall and super massive. I may try to get a couple of better pictures of it.
The thing that topped it all off was he showed me the cape and measured it while I watched. Right behind the ears at the skinny spot was 27", and down in the middle of it's neck it was 37"!!!! BRUTE

Actually it is a KS deer, I should have mentioned that I guess.

The guy brought this one and another over. The other was shot by his nephew I think he said and it is a really nice 12 point, just didn't get any pictures. The other has one awesome side, and one side that is messed up but it is a big deer also.

Hey... the way I see it is that if you have stayed in the stand long enough to get sleepy, your'e doing something.

I'm bad about calling it quits mid morning and we all know that lotsa big bucks are killed between 10 and 2.. Sound right??

Sounds alot like me. I usually call it quits around 10 give or take, but the last week of october I start trying to put as many hours on stand as I can. I've heard those stats many times but I've never killed a big one in the middle of the day.

My work doesnt allow me to hunt for days on end so I need to make every weekend count. Problem is, when friends get together, the nights can last way way too long. I really enjoy getting together with friends and the poker can last too long the night before.

I am committing myself to turning in early and staying late in the stand next year. We'll see if it works. I desperately need to get one of those deer that you all have gotten.... and I will. May be 60 when I do, but I will.

A big part of the equation as far as I'm concerned is persistence. I know people talk about stealth and scent control and everything else and it all has it's place, but you can't kill one if you're not out there.
I have been really lucky to be able to hunt alot the last few years but that will change in the future. I'll always make time to hunt, but not as much as I have probably. Not that I wouldn't like to!

I gotta tell you all... this site is really making me re-think my priorities and I thank you all for that... and all the advice/info I get from you people.

My goal is to post as many pics of deer/turkey/fish that I can from here on out!

We all feel the same Rat...no experts on here other than self-proclaimed and that's probably everyone!! BUT, there is a TON of experience and lots of knowledge floating around this place for sure. Seems like whatever the inquiry there is always someone with the know how to lend some help.
